ICSI is a procedure where they inject a single sperm directly into an egg to ensure that it makes it in. ICSI was the only option for DH and I since our problem was male factor. Basically, the heads of his sperm are not shaped correctly for penetrating the egg. They were getting to the egg, but not able to make it in. ICSI completely bypasses this by allowing the embryologist to inject the sperm directly in.
Hope this helps! BTW, we love ICSI b/c it produced our sweet baby girl who was born 4 weeks ago!!
GOOD LUCK!!!
