K,
I'm 43 and in the early stages of adoption (trying to complete a home study to be exact).
We attended a free seminar at the nearest Jewish Family Services Center (although we are not Jewish - they welcome everyone).
Age was one of my first questions. And yes, it depends on the country you want to adopt from should you choose international adoption. And I've noticed the ages seem to change all the time, so you will have to check it out if/when you are ready to adopt.
My mom has a friend who has a friend who is 68 and recently adopted. Her husband is 15 years younger and we were told that they averaged their ages to make the adoption possible.
In some countries, the rule is something like there may be no more than 45 years between the adoptive parents and child. This would mean at some point we would no longer be eligible to adopt a newborn from another country. That being said, many countries don't allow their children to be adopted until after they are 14 months old.
There are just so many different "rules" and I've learned that they often change.
Bottom line, I'd suggest you cross the age bridge when you get to it.
I hope this helps!!!
Love,
Julie
