Hello LisaC10,
My first real clue was infertility. My hubby and I have been trying to have a baby for three years. After the first year, I went to see my family Dr (small town). She then referred us to a specialist who travels to our town from Saskatoon. He then recommended that I have an HSG. That was done in Saskatoon. That test showed that my tubes were open and there were no blockages in the tubes. I was hopefull after that... but still no baby. At that point I wasn't suspecting endo. Then after another year of trying I went back to the "travelling specialist" and he gave me three options. 1 - have a lap to see what's going on, 2 - refer me to an invetro specialist, 3- start fetility meds (clomid). I took my time to think about the options. I decided I didn't want to go the route of fertility meds since I didn't even know if they would work for me. I had several blood tests, hormone tests, etc. I finally got researching on the internet and found all of the symptoms of endo. I realized that several of the symptoms were things that I had experienced, and even seen the doctor for (painful sex, intestinal problems, etc. etc.). I figured that was likely my issue, so I told the specialist that I wanted to go ahead with the lap. That was in October of 2008. I finally got a letter saying I was on a waiting list for the procedure. In February of 2009 I had the lap done. When I came to after the surgery the specialist (who is the one who did the actual surgery) told me that it was endo and there were three places that he "zapped". He has given us a 70% chance of conceiving in this next year.
What are some of the symptoms you are experiencing? In some ways, I feel quite lucky that I don't have all the pain that is associated with endo. That is a blessing. I am not sure if you are seeing a family dr. or a specialist, but ask to be referred to a fertility specialist. Then make a list of your symptoms, present it to them.. tell them what you want. I honestly think we can know our own bodies pretty well. It is sad that we basically have to diagnose ourself from the internet these days...
Keep me posted LisaC10!
