Hi Brownbelt. This forum is the one for FETs - or frozen embryo transfers. We have already been through retrieval and are now transferring embryos that were frozen during our fresh IVF cycles. You might be able to find more people in situations similar to yours on the IVF board.
To answer your question though, after your eggs are retrieved and fertilized, the clinic will allow them to grow for either 3 or 5 days. There is controversy surrounding which is better or more effective, but a 3-day transfer is just transferring the embryos 3 days after retrieval and a 5 day is transferring them 5 days after retrieval. For a 3 day and a 5 day, the embryo will be in different stages (4 cell, 8 cell, blastocyst, etc) depending on how it's developing.
