Anyways, my husband got a 5 on his sperm count. Dr. said a 20 was normal. When I dropped off the analysis I read instructions that he was supposed to abstain from sex for at least 1-2 days. We had sex both days prior to his dropping off his semen. Doctor never gave me any instructions!
So , the doctor said to retest since we did not abstain before we gave the sample of semen. My question is...if we are having sex every day around ovulation then his sperm count is low no matter what...
So if that is the case what are our options. I am looking good (tubes, FHS all great)...he has not had a blood test...is he supposed to?
I am 36 and he is 40. Would insemination work?...what is " IVF/ICSI and a TESE?" I have heard of IVF but i suppose that is very pricey and we don't have a lot of money.
Thanks , any advice would be helpful.

Hi Jen,
Most of the abreviations are listed just above all the threads under "ACRONYMS" click on that to see them. DH is dear husband =)
I am sorry you have to go through this, it truly sucks. Our first try at IVF was a bust. As far as IUI and if you are a candidate, I cannot say! Its mostly up to your doctor because each case is unique. You should definitely call a fertility specialist and find out if they have FREE seminars. Consultations can run 200-300 bucks but seminars are great because usually someone stays behind after and you can bend their ear a little with your particular situation.
You said your husband had 5 on his sperm count and 20 is normal? I think your doctor meant 20 MILLION and your husband had 5 MILLION. That is not bad. My husbands first count was actually FIVE, one two three four five. but later he had a count in the millions! yay! thank god because the TESE is pricey and painful.
GOOD LUCK!!!!
