It very well could. With insulin resistance, sugars that you eat get turned straight to fat instead of having the opportunity to get used for energy first. The metformin should help your body process the sugar making it easier for you to lose weight. Once I started metformin and then Synthroid for my hypothyroidism a couple months later, I was able to lose weight slowly but steadily doing nothing other than slight modifications to my eating habits, like chosing whole wheat bread over white.
