Hi Girls, I just had my second IUI (third cycle) two weeks ago and I find out if I'm pregnant on Tuesday the 30th. While I'm hoping for the best, I'm also planning for the worst.
The next natural step would be for me to move onto injectibles, however we cannot afford this so I am considering our options.
My sister-in-law has offered several times to be a surrogate for us and I'm giving it some serious thought now. We would be doing it in an unconventional manner to save money. First off, she would be using her own egg and my husband's sperm. We would either pay for her to get an IUI or let her try the "turkey baster" method at home. She's had two children so she obviously has no fertility issues.
Assuming she got pregnant, she would waive her maternal rights and after the baby was born, I would adopt him/her.
I haven't fully decided and DH is on the fence. We both desperately want our family - we've been trying for almost ten years and the toll it takes is devastating... but is this really the answer?
I absolutely know I could love a child that wasn't biologically mine. I know that Kayla wouldn't change her mind or try to milk money out of us. I know that I would love that baby so much. So what's holding me back? I'm really not sure.
Anyway, have any of you used a family surrogate or non-traditional methods? I'm not sure what I'm looking for from you girls. Just support I guess.
- Angel
