klinzer - I have PCOS and have been where you are. They say that pcos is one of the easiest fertility issues to overcome (might be so.. but the people who said that have never tried or felt this frustration). I know you feel overwhelmed right now. Do some research, you'll probably be surprised about what you find out. I was reading all sorts of pamphlets from my doctors office and all the research online going 'oh yeah.. that makes sense now'.
My ovaries have lots of follicles in them all the time. Instead of my body picking one follicle to develop and turn into a mature egg... my body decides to share the wealth with all the follicles. Then.. no egg matures completely and no egg releases and I never ovulate (without assistance)
Everyone is different. Everyone's body works different.
I too tried metformin and clomid. They say that metformin can really increase your chances to achieve pregnancy naturally or with clomid and iui.
Metformin does have some uncomfortable side effects, but most go away after being on it for a while. I had really bad diarrhea if I ate unhealthy foods. So I started on a lower dose and worked my way up. This does eventually go away, but it did suck for a while (just keep thinking of your goal :-)
I know I've gone on and on and on... I hope I helped, even if just a little bit.
I wish you all the luck in the world, and

your dreams come true!
