Hi there,

I am currently going thru setting my HSG procedure up and am trying to determine the approximate total cost. From what I can tell, there will be three separate bills. The first one will be from the clinic (which I assume is my fertility doc's fee). 1) This fee is $1,067.00. Then there will be a bill from the hospital where the procedure is taking place. 2) This fee will be $750-$800. Then, because a radiologist is required to do the reading (usually thru a separate billing facility), there will be a third cost involved. 3) This fee is $116. That brings my grand total to just under $2000 after all is said and done. This is just what it will cost for me in my area (WI), but I am sure this cost varies. Unfortunately, my insurance will not cover this procedure because it is labeled as "infertility", however, all of these bills will still be submitted to my insurance by the provider just to be sure. After they are denied, then I will be billed (so I shouldn't have to pay anything up front for this particular procedure). Of these three separate billing facilities, each one said they have no problem arranging payment plans which are usually $50-$100/mos. (no interest of course).

I hope some of this information is helpful and wish you the very best of luck. I know this response is many months after the initial post, but I hope that if anyone else has this same question (which I did and that is how I found your question and responses) that it will help. Several other responses I noted were around the number I came up with. I was shocked to see some of the lower figure responses, but I think that is wonderful HSG's are not this high everywhere.

As a side note, I do have to pay for all my ultrasounds ($134) up front and IUI procedures ($250) (things of that nature), but if for some crazy reason my insurance covered any of these, I would be reimbursed. Different things can obviously be coded different ways, but once there is a history of infertility in your records, the insurance co. will see that and likely deny anything that in other situations could be done for other reasons. For whatever reason, my insurance co. (which doesn't cover IF) has covered my IF doctor's visits, bloodwork, portions of all rx's (minus my injections), and I think my initial ultrasound which seems very odd to me but I am thankful for that. Again, best of luck http://www.planetsmilies.com/smilies.../happy0161.gif
