Hi, my name is Kris and I live in Fairbanks, AK. I have one beautiful baby girl who is 27 months old. The first time I got pregnant within 3 months, I was 34. Now I am 37 and we were trying for Baby #2 and on March 21 I found out I was pregnant and on March 22 had a mini laparotomy for a ruptured ectopic pregnancy. It was the craziest thing, other than age I have no risk factors whatsoever. And the weirdest thing is that I did not even know I was pregnant! I believe the conception date was 8 or 9 Feb, and I was 2 days late on my period so I took a home pregnancy test that was negative. Then later that day I got my period, which lasted 3-4 days, no change in the color of the blood, just like usual. No nausea, no vomiting, no dizziness. So I just figured it did not work out that month and we would try again next month. I work in the ER and so am pretty up on signs and symptoms of bad things. In about mid march I had some very faint bleeding, like just a bit of bright red blood on the toilet tissue, maybe 4 or 5 days. I also had some urinary urgency, and some bloating, and started freaking out because if I was not pregnant then maybe this meant I had ovarian tumor or something bad. So I made an appointment with my OB/GYN to have further workup for this. I made the appointment for March 23. On March 21 I was at work in the ER, 1/2 way thru my 12 hour shift when I just started feeling really bad. I had lots of cramping and was almost doubled over. My period pains are never like that, so I told the MD I was working with and she drew a pregancy test and it was POSITIVE!!!!!!!!!!!! Imagine my shock, thinking this whole month that I was not pregnant! Well, anyway, she said maybe I was miscarrying, that she would set me up for a pelvic ultrasound in the morning. So I went home, laid down, and about 3 hrs later woke up to this excruciating right shoulder pain. Right then I knew exactly wnat it was! shoulder pain is a tell tail sign of ruptured ectopic. I think I was in denial, still thinking there was no way I could have an ectopic! I showed up at the ER< got ultrasounded, and then whisked off to surgery. They removed part of my right tube, and she said my left tube looked fine, and she felt I would be able to conceive in the future. I am just so beside myself now from all of this that I do not know what to think. I would like to hear from other women who have conceived after ectopic. How long did it take? Did you have part of or your whole tube removed? Or what is the next step if you did not conceive? Has anyone done IVF? As far as I know, I dont have a problem getting pregnant, my husband's sperm count is fine, and I have no abnormalities of my uterus that I know of. Last time it took 3 or 4 months to conceive, this time only 2 months. I just dont know what to think and know we want to have at least one, maybe two more children and would like to know what my options are. WOuld love to hear from anyone who has any advice on this, Thanks for listening, KRis
