I know of someone who is named Pam Ramsbottom. Some friends took bets who would be the first to ask her if her husband's name was Harry or if her daughter's name was Anita. We decided we liked to keep our jobs longer than that.
There was also another whose last name Harddick. Pronounced exactly how it looks.
I dont know, I think I would get a name change asap.
I deal internationally on a daily basis so run into some strange translations such the last name Diks hit (all one word). It just makes me wonder what my name translates to in another language!
On a similar line, I'm always interested in how common words translate to other languages. I have a friend from Micronesia who speaks 5 languages (so many dialects there) so not only could she tell funny stories about how those dialects have very horrible miscommonucations. Like the word chicken being the same as grandfather in another dialect. Imagine the confusion at dinner time
Also she stayed briefly on a street named Willeta, which happened to translate to 'what d ick'. They didn't stay there long. My favorite would be when her grandmother came to visit. She is a traditional woman who doesnt speak a bit of English. My friend took her to the mall and grandma was horrified as she walked by a large red shop sign that said K Momo. Momo being 'whore' in her own language...
