My dad took in another family! Found friendship with these people online they are a year to two years older the DH and myself and they had a 5 year old at the time. She calls them grandma and grandpa and he buys her all sorts of things, took them to a pro football game instead of us, etc. I was really hurt by it and did finally say that their child WAS not and will not be their grandchild. While I know that this family came from a bad place and that this little girl doesn't have a relationship with her actual grandparents it hurt me that they were so quick to grab on and forget about DH and I who at that point had been in the battle for four years. However, once I put it all on the table for my dad he felt really bad and was sorry, he didn't realize that it would affect me in such a manner. This family has since moved out but they still are on great terms and they still visit each other all the time with gifts and cards and holiday greetings. Still a little uncomfortable for me but at least I let myself be known!
