The quick answer to your question is that virtually any insurance can cover infertility diagnosis and/or treatment, but it's up to the employer who is purchasing the insurance or (in the case of individuals buying their own insurance) to the individual purchaser of the plan to *choose* infertility coverage. Most employers do not choose to buy insurance that covers fertility needs because, quite simply, they're afraid it's not worth the money that they'll pay, especially when they consider that most of their employees won't need it. In essence, buying infertility insurance coverage is a huge and sometimes expensive gamble for employers -- so most don't take it.

I know that's not helpful in the short-run, but I think it's important for patients to understand the terms being used in this whole ball of wax.

In essence, unless you're purchasing insurance yourself directly from an insurer and *not* through your employer, and if you're depending on whatever coverage your employer provides, the question is not which insurance company will cover infertility. It's which employer will pay for it.

There's more information on infertility insurance issues on this website.

If you have a good doctor that does creative coding you may actually get more covered than you think.

All of my bloodwork and diagnostic stuff was covered- which would have cost me a fortune.

I ended up doing clomid, ultrasounds, and IUI's. The insurance didn't cover the clomid- cause there was no real creative way to code that. The ultrasounds were just included in the office visit prices- so the insurance would cover those. And the they coded the IUI's as surgery.

So each cycle ended up costing me about $50 bucks which was very do-able. So talk to your doctor and see what they can do to help you out.
