Trying for the last 14 months

Hi my name is Lisa and I am new to joining. I am 26 and my husband and I have been trying to conceive for the past 14 months. I have been going to a specialist for the past 4 months and I have been on clomid for 6 months already and have had 3 IUI with no success. It is getting very frustrating. We have both been tested and they say that we are fine but then why is none of this working? I go back on Friday to talk about the next step. I will keep you posted. I just hate being so depressed for a week out of every month. Then everytime I hear that someone is pregnant I cry and get mad and wish that they lose it. I feel horrible about that because I don't want them to lose it but I want to be happy too. I just don't know what to do anymore. Any advice you can give would be nice, or what you think will be the next step if anyone knows.

Be sure your thyroid is normal. Look at your numbers yourself. Be sure TSH is below 2.5, if it's above that demand to have thyroid antibody test done. I have had 2 yrs of "unexplained infertility" and just learned I have thyroid antibodies and it may be the cause.

I went to the doctors Friday and they are going to be doing a laproscopy and after that if everything checks out they said we could do fertility shots or invetro. I have had my thyroid checked out before and they said it was fine. I am just so confused and hate that this is happening. Everyone that I know right now is pregnant or just had a kid and I still sit here with nothing. Any words of advice would be appreciated.

hi,

i'm new to the message board, but i totally understand what you're going through. i've been trying for 11 months and about the past 6 months i've been going to a fertility clinic and i'm trying to find a level of chlomid that works. it seems that people all around me are getting pg and now my best friend is ttc. i love her and i'll be very happy for her, but the selfish side of me will be jealous if she conceives first. i'm just holding onto the hope that it will happen for me when the time is right. and in the meanwhile i'm making some lifestyle changes and i'm even going to try acupuncture.
gl to you on your journey.

Thank you very much for your words. It really does mean alot. I hope that the clomid works out for you. It didn't work for me but hopefully the shots will and I will only have to be on them for a month or 2 at most. Thanks again

I've heard that acupuncture can increase your chances, and help with the anxiety and depression associated with ttc for a long time. Let us know if it helps!
good luck,
Babbs

Hi,
My name is Holly and I am also new. Seeing lphilli post is what made me want to regester. I had been sitting here feeling sorry for myself and very alone so I decided to see if I could find any information and found this website.

My husband and I have been trying for 9 months. I know that doesn't sound very long, but it feels like forever especially when I didn't ovulate most of those months. I have been on letrozole for the last three months. It worked the first two months, but now this month, nothing again. I was at the doc today to see what the next step is which sounds like another round of provera to start my period, then another round of letrozole and then an ultrasound to see what is going on inside of me with the letrozole.

To make things feel even worse my brother got his girlfriend of 5 months pregnant. All I do is avoid them because when I see them I get upse and usually end up crying. She had an abortion once before this and it just doesn't seem fair that she should get another baby, when she got rid of one, when all I want is a baby.

I wish you all the best of luck and for once in all these months I don't feel so alone in this. Thank you all.

Again, do not take "it's fine' for an answer- ask what your TSH is and it must be below 2.5. Do not overlook this as I wasted 2 years being told "it was fine". yours may be but you need to see the number for yourself. Good luck.

hmplate,
I want to let you know that I totally understand. I know 9 months may not seem long when you say but it is forever when what you want you can't have. My brother ended up getting his girlfriend pregnant as well. My husband and I had been trying for 5 months when I found out. They have since had the baby. It is really hard to see them with it because they are so young and that they have what I want. Then to make matters worse, 3 of my friends and 2 of my cousins have all gotten pregnant and I am still trying. I am actaully going tomorrow night to a support group that I was told about. Hoepefully that will help some.
If you are not going to a specialist you should start going. I know they say tha tyou usually can not go till you have been trying for at least a year but I went after 10 months. I am glad I did though or else I would be even further behind. I have the same problem, I do not ovulate and even being on clomid there were 2 months that I still did not ovulate. It is so frustrating. I am having surgery on Thursday to see if they can find anything else out. I will let you know. Take care

Hi, I totally understand what you are going through. Everyone around me is pregnant after trying for 1 month. My husband and I have been trying for about 10 months. I went to the doctor and he is putting me on letrozole days 3-7. I am ovulating but my luteal phase is very short. My question is did you experience any side effects since you've been on letrozole...especially weight gain? I would really appreciate some information. Good luck to you! Thanks

Hello koukla3,
Happily I can tell you that I didn't have any side effects from on the letrozole. My doctor told me that is why she likes to try letrozole before going to chlomid. Good luck to you.

Thank you slobin for the advice of having my Thyroid checked. I talked with my mother and she told me that my grandmother had problems with hers and both my mother and my uncle had to have theirs tested also. I had the test done on Friday and it came back normal. I asked for the actual number and it was below 2.5. I am greatfull for the advice - it's one more thing eliminated. Thanks again.

Glad to hear it. Have it checked periodically and be sure it stays there, and ideally it would be below 2 for optimal fertility but that's good news!
