We have been trying to have a baby for over a year now.. We have just started visiting the doc and he had asked my hub to get a sperm test done.. The problem here is that my hub is unable to get it erect because of pressure to perform. The sperms need to be handed over to the lab within 1/2 hour to max 1 hour. The lab technician is also available only during some afternoons for couple of hours... All these put together is creating a lot of pressure and stress for my hub and he is unable to do it... His libido is normal.. But he cannot act under pressure... Once he tried to do it in the lab,, and the next time we tried at home with me being present.. but it was still unsuccessful.. We are both very psychologically upset now... Any body have gone through this situation before and have some ideas?... Please help.....

I'm sorry!!
This must be very frustrating!! I know it's weird...my DH is NEVER keen on doing them, but I think it gets easier every time. I would suggest some "Adult" material...I got my DH some DVD's...I know it's something we aren't used to talking about or even encouraging...I tried to make it as "fun" for him as I could! Good luck...don't give up!!

My dh has a problem with this too. We did all of the above. First he tried in the lab and it didn't work, then we tried at home with me present, that didn't work. Finally he was home alone one day ordered an adult movie got the cup and we had success!!! He called me very excited when he completed his mission. That was all for the SA!!!! Now he is able to go into the lab with their DVD and me knocked out on the table for ER and he does very well now. I am sure once he does it he will be ok thereafter, he just has to find what works for him. Good luck!!

you know girls, i never thought this was a problem for DH's. With the previous IUI's he was great, especially with IVF, he was back in my room before i knew.
i guess some men are too stressed, but glad you ladies were there to help them out.

I was allowed to go with my husband into the room while he gave his samples before our IUIs. This made him feel more comfortable since unfortunately it was done in a large bathroom. You can help him along, if you know what I mean. There just can't be any saliva or cervical mucus mixed with the sample. It seemed to help my husband that I could be with him and help him along with the act. Hope that helps.

My DH also had a problem with his SA. We ended up renting a hotel close by to the clinic (a bathroom just doesn't work for him whether I'm there or not), and he also got some Cialis which helped as well. We live an hour away from the clinic. So the hotel worked best. He had his privacy did his thing and voila everything was fine.
Now, he is worried about the fresh sample for the ER day, but we're going to get a room in town again. My RE is making arrangements for someone to meet DH at the hospital (they've given us a cell phone # to call when DH is on his way). As a backup, we opted to freeze some from his original SA. Our RE says it's not an uncommon problem with DH's and while they prefer fresh for ER, it's always best to have a backup plan.

Dh and I always collected together. At the clinic we doctored at, they provided a small room... with a couch, recliner, tv, adult materials, and a full bathroom with a shower. This was for the IVF and they were called IVF suites! It was like a mini hotel room. I can tell you I definetely think that is what made it so easy. While it's not easy at all, the room was kinda "homey"... or at least they tried to make it that way. There was a direct phone line to the lab, in case of any problems. I was really impressed our first visit to one of these rooms. After all the visits we had there... I kidded with Dh that we wouldn't be able to perform at home anymore!
With our IUI's, we also collected together... but they just sent us to an exam room. There was no lock on the door and the nurse would put a little sign on the door that said "privacy please". This always freaked both of us out!!! I know this can be a real challenge for Dh's... but believe it or not, it does get easier!
