Hey all, am new to this site. Have been trying to conceive for a year and a half with 3 miscariages. I am 21 and have been in touch with a gynaechologist. She has decided to put me onto chlomid since i have problems ovulating due to PCOS. I am starting that 2morrow and am really nervous about it. Does anyone have any advice on what to expect when i go for my scan on day 12 i have been reading so many different things and none of them seem to match what i have been led to believe by my gynae. Wat i was basically told is that on day 12 i go get my scan and of it works i try to conceive. She didnt give me any advice on how to do this like what time would be best and do i try for a few days or anything. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

Jenna, I'd say that even with PCOS you've been able to conceive three times in a year so that's a great statistic, gives you hope. However, I'm sorry to hear of your losses. Your day 12 scan will show how many follicles you have or potential eggs to fertilize. I don't believe there is anything special about the time of day. Some say wait a day in between and others say go at it for three days straight once you ovulate. The choice is yours really. Welcome the forum and best of luck to you!

Thanks thats really helped. So basically when i go and get my scan they will tell me how many potential eggs and am going to have and they will no when am going to ovulate so i can try to conceive then. Well thats much clearer now. Am still really nervous tho lol. So how long after I ovulate will it take to find out if i got pregnant? So u think that getting pregnant all that times in a year is a good thing then? Do u think that means that I will have a better chance of the chlomid working?

Jenna, I've learned that clomid can help create more mature, healthy eggs (in quality and perhaps quantity), and more better quality eggs will make healthier embryos.

When I went in for my CD12 u/s I had 1 dominant follicule that was almost ready. They also measured my uterus lining. It was almost ready. So they had me come back for a CD14 u/s. At that point my follie and lining were ready, so that night they had me trigger (HCG shot). Then 36 hours I went in for my IUI. If you are not getting an IUI, you can still trigger and BD. If you are not triggering, they will tell you when your best chances of conceiving (best time to have sex) are. But basically if you are just doing clomid without IUI/trigger, then they are just checking to make sure you don't have too many follicules and that the one(s) you have look ready to ovulate.

that was really helpfull. I am pretty certain that I no where I stand now. From what I understand I go and get the scan and they check that am ready and then they either take me back a few days later to check again or they tell me the best time to conceive. Thats a lot clearer. I hate going to the hospital when I dont no exactly what im going for. Hopefully there will be no more waiting after I get to day 12 and hopefully i dnt have to take the chlomid for more than 1 cycle. I have been hearing so many positive comments and my dr said that they would be very surprised if i didnt have any joy with this treatment. So heres to hoping.

Hi, I know what you're going through! I was really confused about the timing and how often to do it as well. My plan from my obgyn was to take the clomid from day 5 to day 9 then do nothing at all for 5 days then have sex every 2nd day. During my first cycle I did that but instead of having sex every 2nd day, we did it every night cause I thought that would increase my chances. I told my obgyn this and she freaked! She said that by doing it that often, it doesn't give DH enough time to produce good quality sperm however now that we are at the Fertility clinic, we had an IUI monday morning where DH had to do a fresh sperm thingy then the Nurse told us to have sex again that night and everyday for the next few days to increase our chances. I dont know who to listen to! NEway, sorry to carry on! Best of luck and keep us updated!
