TTC - BFN after 1st IUI - infertility unexplainable - Anyone in similar position?

ME: 23
HIM: 30

Im so glad i finally joined a site like this.

After trying naturally for a year we decided to go off to a fertility specialist.

We did one cycle of tracking and everything seemed fine, as was the HSG. Sperm count high although Motlity below average although doctor said it shouldnt be of any consequence.

So with everthing basically normal getting a BFN on my first IUI crushed me. What if i never get pregnant? What if i can never conceive? Why if there were 90 million sperm inseminated in me and 1-2 follies did i not get pregnant?!!!!

Is there anyone in my position?

Can anyone give me any tips on what foods to eat and what food/activities to stear clear of?

This month I am going to switch to full cream milk and eating ice cream regularly...I've heard dairy is good...

Hi and !! I'm glad you found this site. There are many ladies on this board that have had success after 2,3,4 or more IUIs. Take a look at the IUI thread under Infertility Treatments. I know it's frustrating, but you will get that BFP!!!

I am in a similar position as you are. We are moving onto IVF soon. I have been sturggling with IF for too long.

I have switched to better food choices. I'm not too sure about dairy alone, but moving to wholesome foods - whole grains, fruits, vegetables, eggs etc. definitely helps. I haven't gotten pregnant yet, but my overall health has improved a great deal.

Are you going to try another IVF? Good luck to you!!

Welcome to the board! I am in the same situation, I have unexplained IF and have been TTC for 3 1/2 yrs. I had my first IUI in Oct 07 and and then an IUI w/clomid(I ovulate on the own but am willing to try anything to improve my chances) in Dec 07 with another . My DH and I are taking a break from IUI and did just clomid in Jan 08 with and now doing just clomid again this month, praying for a . If it doesn't succeed this month we will go back to IUI. I'm ready to do IUI again but his thought process is that it hasn't worked, so why keep spending the money(our ins won't pay for it). I've ready so much on these fertility websited that many people don't get pregnant until their 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th IUI, some later than that. The only thing I can say is not to give up. I can't reccomend any different foods or anything. The only thing else I"m doing is taking prenatal vitamins, baby aspirin(since clomid thins the lining) and I"ve just started Fish Oil. But no luck yet, just hang in there.

Don't forget that even with "perfect" conditions for an IUI, your chances of it working are only about 1/3 or 1/4 (about the same as a couple not experiencing IF). If things aren't working after four or so tries, THEN, I'd start to get worried. That said, I haven't tried yet, and I'm CONVINCED the first one will work and I'm sure I'll be in a state of panic if it doesn't, so I understand how you're feeling.

Unhappy New To the board, unexplained infertility

TTC for over a year!
Hi ALL
30 years old, with my husband for 14 years. Used the rhythm method.
I had the workup done, even a laparoscopy to check for endo. My husbands count is average. My levels seem average. I did have lyme's disease this summer but doc isn't concerned with it! I did 3 rounds of clomid even though I have follicles and ovulate. Dr. says "unexplained infertility could mean my eggs are dropping from the follicle or DH 's sperm isn't reaching" I am so sad and frustrated but I am trying to stay positive when it seems like everyone around me effortlessly gets pregnant! Dr. wants to do an IUI next month with injectibles(it is sooo expensive I am freaking out). My insurance won't 'cover any of the meds but will cover insemination.I am petrified that it won't work! I have read many of you are in this boat! How do you stay positive? I am afraid it will NEVER happen. Even though my doctor highly believes I will get pregnant, I still feel sad.

Hi everybody!

Ivory, im in pretty much the same situation. We tried for a year on our own... charting when ovulation should be, then using opk, then finally after a year i did bloodwork (normal) and DH did SA (severe male factor infertility) We were referred to RE. We did 1st round clomid, hcg, timed intercourse all to no avail!!! This month we did IUI (in 2ww now!!) Although i dont have high hopes..we only got 2 million swimmers. We went to see a new RE that participates with our ins (although i have no infertility coverage) he basically said i have the same odds of getting pg as someone on birth control. He said save your money and go straight to ivf with icsi. DH and i have decided to try IUI 2 mores times then save for IVF. Its so disheartening when the conditions are perfect and STILL nothing happens!!! Then there are all those people having random one night stands--and they get PG!!!! I wish you the best of luck with IUI #2

Hope

Ivory and others,

My husband and I had to resort to iui with a donor in order to have children. I have not been diagnosed with any sort of fertility problems (as I have also been tested every which way but lose!). Please see my signature for info regarding the numbers of tries it has taken to have our son and now pregnant with #2 (10 total iui's). My best friend also had to do iui with a donor (no known fertility problems for her) and she has now done 2 iui's and become pregnant each time (one daughter and is pregnant right now). It can take time and I don't think there is any way to pinpoint when exactly it will happen! Both times I got pregnant, I had given up hope, didn't even do pregnancy tests at home, was days late before facing the fact that I might actually be pregnant!

Take good care of yourself and your relationships and the rest will follow as it should. Please don't give up hope after one try.

Hi there,
I have been married for 3 years now. I am 29 and my husband is 30. We have been trying for a baby for a year now but nothing...
I have started going to a fertility specialist in my city. I have been diagnosed with PCOD...and my husband has a sperm count of 30 million.
Is there anyone who is in a situation like mine? Can anyone tell me if we can have children through IUI or IVF???

Thanks,
SI.
