Have you seen an RE yet?

Most RE’s wont see patients who haven’t been trying for at least a year. I figured since this is the forum for members who have been trying for 2+ years, that most of you have seen an RE.

How was your experience?

Did you’re Dr. explain everything in detail?

Did you’re insurance company cover the visit?

If you haven’t seen an RE, can you explain why?

Thumbs up Great RE

Saw a RE, after going to 5 different Gyne's and "specialists". Ideally, I went for fibroids, however, the RE that I go to, a really good doc in Chicago that works for Loyola Medical System, is a real specialist in "infertility and its problems and causes".
My insurance did cover the cost, he is in my network (woohoo). I explained everything to him, however, he could of explained it all to me, cause he has years of experience and dealt with almost any and everything.
Out of all the docs I went to, I am really pleased that I got the reccomendaiton to go to see a RE, cause it was more than just fibroids, I needed answers beyond that. It was my uterus, my fertility was at stake.

I loved mine! I had gone to some really stupid gyn that had left me in tears at the end of the day. I knew what I had (PCOS) but they didn't understand the condition so they would just send me home.

My first visit with my RE he said the word PCOS within the first five minutes, and then had a game plan for the next year. It was awesome!

We ended up moving a few months later cross-country, and I was so sad to leave him....

It was well worth it in my opinion- and my insurance covered most procedures.

I started this journey when I told my OBGYN after a year of no BFP, he put me on 6 months of clomid without monitoring, I don't recommend this. I started going to my RE on Feb 1st. The first appointment was two hours of everything I ever wanted to know about wanting to have a baby. I actually have only seen him one other time to change my cycles to IUIs. Talk to the nurses all the time though and love them! My insurance covers all doc appts but I do have to pay co-pay. Meds are a different story. I go to an RE because their main goal is to get me pregnant!!

I'm just starting with a visit to my OB/GYN to ask questions about TTC and what we need to do. I can go to doctor's visits and so forth however when it comes to IUI or IVF, our insurance will not cover it. It's all out of pocket.

I went to an RE after TTC for almost 1.5 years. Wish I had gone sooner. I waited until I had been trying for a year to make the appointment and it took 4 months to get in.
The RE looked at my charts and recent bloodwork from my gyn. He talked me through all of the options from Clomid, to IUIs, to IVF. We set a plan in motion that day.
My insurance covers none of it.

Well, it hasn't officially been 2 years...but only one month shy so I think I can still post here .

I didn't go to an RE until cycle 22. My main reason for not going was money and the fear of hearing the dreadful news that I was "Infertile". I wish I had sucked it up early on and just done it because now I'm looking at surgery to remove a hydorsalpinx tube, recovery time, and then any IUI or IVF that RE recommends. My insurance changed this year and they now cover diagnostics...no IVF.

My first appt. with the RE was a little nerve racking, but she looked at my charts and my history and immediatly suggested an HSG before any type of ART becuase she thought I might have some scar tissue or damage to my tube from an appendectomy surgery as a teenager. She hit the nail on the head...I indead have a hydrosalpinx tube on the right side. I go back for my next appt. on Tuesday to discuss surgery and options after the procedure.

Guidelines for evaluation of infertility are
-ttc for 1 year under 35
-ttc for 6 months under 40
-40 and over immediately

After getting married at 38, I finally got an appointment with a gyn at 39. She sent me home because I wasn't 40 yet. I couldn't get another appointment until I was 40.5. I could have gone to the RE at 38, and I wish that I had. I wasted my time waiting 8 months to see a gyn, and I didn't have the time to wait.

How was your experience? Very good. I am happy with my RE. I actually went at about 10 months TTC. It helped to have him give me some peace of mind that I was cleared (had the painful HSG test, no blockage, and everything else looked normal) and DH had good swimmers. Tried IUI once and back to natural. May try again later this summer.

Did you’re Dr. explain everything in detail? Yes very detailed.

Did you’re insurance company cover the visit? Insurance covered diagnostic for me (testing, etc) but no treatments. IUI runs about $650 per try.

If you haven’t seen an RE, can you explain why?
