Hi. Like most of you, I am new to this site. I am 28 years old and have been through 2 surgeries in 4 months. I just need a forum to express all of my emotions and knowledge. In late March 2008, my husband rushed me to the ER at 3am. I had been feeling fine, but earlier in the night I was uncomfortable and thought I was having bad cramps. I woke up in the middle of the night doubled over in pain and in the fetal position. I went to the ER and initially they thought I had kidney stones or a burst apendix. After testing, they determined I had an ovarian cyst and told me that I should follow up with my doctor in a few days if I didn't feel better. The ER told me that more than likely my cyst would burst on its own and I would be fine. 4 days later I was still hunched over and in pain. I went to my doctor and my pain was so severe that she couldn't even touch my stomach. After more testing it was determined that I had a torsed right ovary and would require surgery. Almost 2 weeks passed before my surgery because of insurance/paperwork errors. By the time I had my surgery, correction was no longer an option. I had dead tissue and my cyst had fused to my bowel. My right ovary was so severely torsed that it was removed along with my fallopian tube. I went in for a simple laproscopic procedure, but 4 hours later, I had a full pelvic surgery and I was missing half of my reproductive parts.
I went for a 2 week follow up after my surgery and the ultrasound showed severe inflamation of my left fallopian tube... the only one I had left. After several more tests, it was determined my left tube had to be removed and I was informed that I could never have kids naturally. 4 months after my first surgery, I had a second surgery. During surgery my doctor found that my tube was not fluid filled as originally thought from the ultrasound. My tube was covered with massive scar tissue and he was able to remove it and save my ovary. He was so optimitic that he told me and my husband in the recovery room that I would be able to get pregnant on my own. When I went for a 2 week follow up after my second surgery, the ultrasound told a different story. The scar tissue returned. So I am back to sqaure one. I can only get pregnant by IVF. I am grateful that my ovary and tube were saved because I don't have to worry about hormonal problems at this point. I know I should focus on the good, but my husband is a Marine Corps. officer and he will be deployed shortly which makes IVF diffciult. Every time I go to the doctor I have several residents present because I a am such an "unsual case." I just want to reach out to all of you with fertility problems. |
