Oh my... Just the thought of using my FIL's sperm makes my skin crawl! Yuck!! Erase the image from my mind.

Don't get me wrong. If some of you are doing that, I don't mean to offend! But if you knew my father in law.... Well... let's just say that ... nah...let's just leave it to your imagination! *lol*

Sometimes i just wish some ppl had a heart...i also get the famous "no one else in the family has had fertlity ISSUES how can u??" I say things like well you are basing your knowledge on the last 30 years of family history..who is to say we didnt have someone in our family that was never able to concieve..and besides the fact lifestyles are differnt now too...and i also have a lot of ppl in my family that totally disagree with treatment!!!! they say things like if your were meant to have another one God would give it to you...my comment back on that to my MIL was that "ok God put docs here on earth to help us....and if you wanna say things like that stop taking your daily meds and have faith you are healed....and you wont do that now will you...what is the difference between my meds and yours?? the diagnosis?? thought so..." maybe that is rude to say..but i am sure you ladies know what i mean...grrr....*lol*

Hi guys! I'm still new here, but I'm checking out some of the threads. We're waiting to start our first IVF. I have a different spin to add to this. I am a hairdresser and I have an eight year old boy already. I am 27 and married and all day long (it seems) I hear from my clients: "When are you going to have another one?" It has been really hard. For awhile when we found out that we had issues, I told people that we were done and left it at that. It has been especially irratating when people press the issue and say, "Oh you need a little girl." and stuff like that. It never ceases to amaze me what people think is appropriate to say.

Good luck to everyone!

This is coming from another 21 year old. i have an amazing dss that is 4 and we are very much trying for number 2 and have been for over a year now. I get the same thing to. Either "You are so young and have so much going on you dont need another right now" or "you have plenty of time" or " You have Collin and that is Gods gift to you". my mom actually said that and she has 5 not including 3 step children. i was like "MOTHER you dont think i am as important as the three you had before me? Just because i have a child does not mean that i should care any less for the next or try any less to have them in our lives". Keep your head up girl you are not alone

Yes, glad to see this post!!
How is our desire to have more any less/more than someone else's desire to have even one or however many they want? IF is IF....!!
It's not someone else's place to judge what is right for each person.
Best of luck in reaching your dreams ladies!!

I know the exact feeling what your going through, and I hated it too. It was very heartbreaking to hear that from the closest people to me... People have dreams they want to follow. Just keep your head up, keep following your dreams, you know it happened for you once and it will happen for you again, for as many times as you want to have more babies. Good luck to you!!

People shouldn't comment on things they know nothing about. I don't expect people who have not had fertility problems to understand, but I do expect them to not say stupid things like "well honey, at least you have one." Have they ever thought about my poor son who begs to have a sibling? He isn't satisfied with being an only child. I never thought this would happen to me...

[quote=foxxy]Anna,

I'm still laughing! I've had comments too! In fact, on Easter, my FIL told me he wish he could help out with donating sperm! It took everything I had in me to walk away from that comment. I didn't even respond, even though he told him he was joking.....it's no JOKE! UGH!

I was on a trip and reading the Newsweek issue from March with the cover story about surrogacy. Two of the guys started laughing and joking about how their wives should be surrogates to make some more money, especially the one who's a SAHM. They don't know our IF stuff and probably had no troubles of their own, but come on, show some compassion - sadly, one of the guys was our minister.

Ugh! I was talking to someone today about being anxious to try for #2 and she said the same thing to me "you should just be grateful for the the one you have."...this from a woman who has 3 of her own!!

I politely explained to her that I grew up as an only child and did not like it, and want my DD to be able to have a sibling. She still didn't get it!!

I am always amazed at how stupid some people can be!

I agree

I agree seems like the people with 3 just don't get it...but I like the idea of a brother or sister. Having family is wonderful and in a world with people that are not good ...we really need family...some days they are the only ones we have. Why would someone say that. How rude! Doesn't sound like a good friend with good thoughts...bad energy. Move forward...and don't give her any updates on your fertility issues. Best of luck to you....I hope you have twins!
