Do people change when you have a child?

Before our daughter was born, my mother-in-law called regularly and would invite us over often for a visit. I was there for her whenever she needed me and helped her during a difficult time. She even told me that she thinks of me as a daughter and not a daughter-in-law. Since we brought home our daugher, she rarely calls or visits anymore. When we do see her, she is always telling me how I should do things different in respect to raising my daughter. And she has never once offered to babysit or help out even when she knew I needed help.

So, I am confused. Do people change when you have a child? Do they think you don't want to be bothered? Do they wait for you to call them?

Hi Deanna!

In my experience(mommy to 4, had a wonderful MIL until cancer took her last year, also have 4 SIL's) Most peopel wait for you to can AND when you don't get all sorts of crazy notions as to why.

It seems if I do not take the initiative to make dates, ask for help,be actively involved with the kids I have done something wrong.

I think it's stupid but that is just how it seems to go!~wink
