Mindi- I don't have many words of wisdom. It has been so long since I had an IUI. Have they checked if you O on a natural cycle with an u/s? I know what you mean about wanting to maximize your potential during this cycle. Have you had chlomid before?

Kay, no I haven't had done chlomid yet. Actually, I've never even tried to get pregnant before. I have extremely long cycles. My mom did too, but she had no problems conceiving six children.

I am actually doing this by myself. I am using and AD. I am also on the SMC thread, but of course I am the oldest member there so I wanted to be on a thread with over 40 ttc.

I have had tw u/s and I showed nice follies, but it wasn't around O time, so I don't know how large any of them get. I didn't do good with the POAS as I guess I did it wrong. I also tried to follow my cm, but I heard that that is an inconclusive way to chart O. Since I always have heavy cm, and I can feel my ovary twinge before O I figured that that was the best way to chart. Well, that didn't work this month. LOL

Well, I guess I will see what my RE says when I go in for my next blood tests. I will not get the IUI if he says that it looks "pretty good". I have no problem waiting until I hear it is "perfect".

I'd rather wait. Spermies aren't cheap.

Charting O is difficult for most. I would wait for perfect too! Spermies aren't cheap and no need for undue anxiety. I hope you get that PERFECT cycle soon!

Happy Easter everyone!

Hi Lia, Sorry I never saw the post....
I started my Lupron 3/14. ED starting stims on 3/27. ER is estimated for 4/7 and ET 4/11. I'm getting very nervous. This is my last shot at ttc and I just pray it works. I'm trying to stay positive but you can't help but think the worst sometimes.
How about you? Did you find a donor yet?

Mindi - I know how frustrating it is to try to find the exact right month (and, yes, those spermies aren't cheap!). But any single month, even a young person isn't going to be certain that it will work.

In terms of chlomid, I've heard from many sources that it's not helpful over age 35 unless you're not ovulating for some reason. Chlomid also has some bad side effects, such as drying you up and lessening the uterine lining, both things that you wouldn't want for this process if it's not going to help. I tried letrozole (similar to chlomid) for 2 of my IUIs, and it didn't seem to make a difference. It was on unmedicated cycles that I got pregnant.

It's definitely not easy to chart. One thing I tried when the sticks weren't working for me is the fertility monitor. It's a little more expensive and also comes with sticks, but it checks a couple of levels leading up to ovulation and then lets you know when you're at the ideal time to inseminate. I think it's made by Clear Blue Easy.

Also, Mindi, you asked about when I did IUIs whether I did single ones - for 8 of the 9 we did single inseminations. For the last one we tried 2. The two that worked (for a while) were single shots. No cramping for me, but I know everyone's different. If there is cramping, it should be pretty minimal.

Marisa - Your cycle's really underway! Very exciting! B

So, I can see that everyone here is just on the bench waiting for their turn.

I have decided that I want to go ahead with the clomid so I don't miss my O next month. I called my RE this morning as his assistant told me to call on my first day of AF so we could do another blood test to see if it is okay to take clomid.

What determines if you need clomid or not anyway? My FSH and estrogen levels are excellent and my HSG was also excellent, and that is why my RE said we can go with an unmedicated IUI. However, I want to make sure I have as much as 100% possibility that I can get pregnant on my firt IUI. Wouldn't it be wise to just take clomid to make sure of that happening? My sister said that she got pregnant on her first try with IUI, so I am hoping that this may be a genetic thing. Like she got preggers on her medicated cycle so I should have the same luck.

I know that I am putting the cart before the horse here and that I should wait to see what my next blood test and u/s show. But you know how it is, I'm anxious to make sure I've done all the right things in preparation for my IUI.

Anywho, I be happy to hear your thoughts.

Mindi

Mindi, I think you are wise to consider waiting until everything is in order. I have been on clomid for a few cycles, and honestly, I am not sure what it did for me. I was producing follicles before it so I am not sure. It really effected me hormonally with regards to mood swings. My least favorite thing so far. I am not sure this will help at all.... but that is my experience with it.

I am so glad your numbers are excellent. I will be keeping my for you and a
