Just joined 40+ and happy to have found you

HI everyone, I have a similar story to many of you. I met my hubby at the ripe old age of 39...we married at 40 and have been ttc for about a year and a half. WE had 2 miscarriage and them went on the baby making hiautus due to him breaking his hip in a ski accident. Now we are back at it and committed to making it work. I have been following some of the threads and learning alot...thanks!

Hi Taka,

Glad you joined!

Have you had a consultation or treatment with an IF specialist in addition to ttc naturally?

Hi Justine, Yes, we did the IUI's through our gyno and then finally met with a IF in November. He said our FSH was good for my age, it was 9. So we did one IUI which failed and now we are doing Follistim. I am just getting familiar with all stats (which by the way are depressing). When we went in on day 3 to check the follies we had 19 and so we started the injectibles. When we induced OV we had 3 mature follicles and a couple that were questionable, so here we are. I'm really trying to be positive during this wait. How about you, when did you know that you needed to go to donor eggs?

Taka!! Good luck with your baby making. This is a great place to get lots of support and valuable information!!

I went straight to using DE because of my low ovarian reserve. My RE told me I would have about a 2-5% chance of getting pregnant with me own eggs. Everyone is different though and many people in their 40's get pregnant with their own eggs.

Shelley, first congrats to you about your three nuggets! When my hubby and I went in for our last Ultrasound before we induced our dr. said we had a chance of triplets, we both just smiled and said..okay!

We are only in our first round of Super Ov...if this doesn't work I may talk to our dr. about whether we should go straight to IVF or try one more round. Thanks for the support

A Newbie to the group

Hi Ladies

I have been reading the posts and take comfort in knowing that I am not alone in this journey. I just had a failed FET and have a follow up appointment with my RE tomorrow. How is everyone coping with the emotional roller coaster ride that you go one? Have any of you communicated with your employers as to what you are gong through? I feel like I am always coming in late or leaving early for a doctors appointment and just wish I could tell them what is going on. I look forward to this support system, it is so hard for anyone not going through this to know what we are going through. Beth

wannabemom, Yes I feel the same way. Although I am really trying to stay positive sometimes I just start crying. I keep feeling regret that I didn't try when I was younger....although I wouldn't have been able to do this with my hubby...I have been lucky so far with work. I told my boss, she is in another state and is very supportive, I have also worked for the same company for 11 years and pretty much have control over my own schedule. The hard part for me is that I travel alot for work...I think this has been one of the reasons it has taken us so long. I have made a commitment to myself that having a baby comes first and I am drastically cutting down on my travel. I have also told a couple of close colleages...they have been wonderful and supportive. How about you?

wannbemom. IF really is a rollercoaster for both us and our DH's. I only tried ivf once but it took many months to prepare with the testing, picking out the donor, waiting for her to be available..then they found out I had a heart shaped uterus so I had an operation to correct that!

Girls my stats are very low because I had a medical issue a few years ago that caused the low ovarian reserve so don't pay attention to what I wrote.

Miracles happen all the time. Don't give up hope! Your day will come!!

I am 40 (will be 41 in March) and I would love to join other women here who are in the 40+ group. I am inspired by your stories and input.
I am preparing for a donor egg procedure in Feb. I am in awe of you who are able to use your own eggs. I actually started premature menapause in my thirties. I am grateful there is hope for me though. It will be nice comparing IF experiences and pregnancy experiences.
Best to you all!

Thanks for the welcome ladies! It is nice to have support. There aren't many people in my world who A) understand IF issues and B)can relate to desiring a baby in their 40's.
My ET will be during the week of Feb.25th. I am doing my Lupron injections right now and I have an u/s on the 30th of Jan.
I am excited, but also nervous.
How did you decide how many embies to transfer? I think my dr. wants to do two. I know she will not do more than this. My donor has had great results (several twins).
Babysteps- Congrats on your triplets! You must be so excited. Are you feeling well? I will be so interested in watching your progress and seeing pictures of those three dear ones when they are born!

Tamar- I can't wait to see your BFP announcement soon. I hope your two week wait is filled with peace!

The crazy thing is that I do not feel 40. My DH and I are in a really good spot in our lives right now and having a family would be perfect. I use to regret not having children when I was younger but I have only been with my DH for 3 years.

Kay, normally my RE only transfers 2. My ED had previous success with recipients getting pregnant. They retrieved 20 eggs, 15 fertilized. day 3 there were 10 really good quality embryos. When I went for my day 5 transfer there were only 3 embryos that made it to blast. We were all shocked!! One embryo was of poor quality and very fragmented. My RE said it would most likely not survive being frozen and thawed. We then had an option basically to transfer all 3 or waste one. Remarkably they all implanted!! Again I was shocked because the 3rd one really was not very good quality (althought it had been a couple days earlier).

My RE gave us the standard talk about the risks of having triplets and selection reduction option. I am very attached to the 3rd little one. It was smaller than the other 2 on the 1st u/s but we heard the heartbeat! I am looking forward to my u/s this Thursday and I am also a bit scared too!! The doctor told me that it is common for one or two of the multiples to vanish. I feel really good actually. I am really really tired, hungry in the morning and my boobs will soon have their own zip code, but I feel great!
