How does it work?

i've heard people say that acupuncture can help people conceive? what is everyone's thoughts? does it really have a high success rate? i'm not sure if it's something i'm in to, but i'm getting desperate to try anything that has a chance.

I have two friends who achieved successful PGs after using acupuncture and I'm trying it myself. I'm going once a week. It's mostly relaxing, although the ovarian stimulation day was no fun at all! I've used acupuncture for other things like pinched nerves and found it to be really really helpful. Try to find someone who is experienced with fertility treatments so he/she can help you manage the side effects and be familiar with the process.

A study was done that showed accupuncture had a significant impact in the success rate, but only with regard to FETs. The study showed that women who had accupuncture both before and after the transfer had a statistically significant increase in viable pregnancies. You should be able to google the study and find out more about it. I had accupuncture the day of transfer when I got pregnant, so although it's anecdotal, I'm a believer.

Acupuncture helps with blood flow to your reproductive organs, general relaxation... I used acupuncture before, during and after my IVF cycles #3 and #4. IVF #4 was successful. Good luck to you and keep visualizing your little one.

I'm really looking forward to my 3rd appointment on Wednesday. I'm also reading the book "Infertility Cure" by Dr. Lewis, which gives some insight in to how it all works. It's a little bit hard to wrap your head around, especially since I have a western medical background, but I thousands of years of practice can't be wrong.

I have gotten Acupuncture done for myself for 2 months, but then had to leave coz I lost my job and couldnt afford to go there anymore.

But I am impressed with what it does. I have stage 4 endo with both tubes blocked with hydros, severe pms and bleeding. All that has reduced, my PMS has reduced to a huge extent, I used to get fever and I couldnt even go to work before, but now its not there anymore. I wish if I could have continued I might have gotten more results.

Anyways, Good luck to you. I would most definitely recommend it while you are ttc.

Good luck,
sok

DH tried acupuncture to make his sperm behave better :-) but it didn't work. I'm still very glad we tried, because you never know! He found it very relaxing, but I think it's just too complicated for his sperm.

For unexplained infertility, I think you should try anything and everything! One of these days, you'll stumble on what works....

Good luck, and may you be preggers before you know it...

Laurie

So what's the standard for accupuncture, are there certain days that you should go?

DH had acupuncture for a few months to help semen quality. I had it for a few months to prepare my body because I had sciatica and back problems. I 4 acupuncture sessions the 2 weeks leading up to FET, 1 immediately before FET, and 1 immediately after FET. I'm a believer too. They say you should go twice a week for a month to start seeing results then at least once a week. With IF treatments, the soomer you start acupuncture the better. Good luck!

I did acupuncture 1-2 times weekly beginning when I started Clomid / IUIs. My acupuncturist's routine was for me to go in twice weekly during the first half of each cycle to stimulate egg production. Those sessions included electrical stimulation to the needles, which totally freaked me out when I heard of it but in reality it just tingles like a strong vibration. After ovulation I went once a week and had a more general "relaxation" session to promote healthy blood flow to the uterus. When it came to IVF I did the twice weekly electrical stimulation acupuncture while stimming and then I had a session the afternoon after my ET and once a week thereafter, until I got out of my first trimester. It has gotten a little expensive (we buy packages of 10 treatments at a time and they run about $55 each that way), but the thought DH and I had was that it was nothing compared to the rest of the IF treatments and if it saved us from having to do IVF or a second round of IVF it would be well worth it. Be sure to ask if your insurance covers acupuncture as well. Mine doesn't, but I understand that some do.

Good luck!

I go once a week for the last 2 months, to prepare my body for pregnancy. Then when stims started, they want to see me 2-3 times a week, and on the day of transfer the acupuncturist will come to my doctor's office to do treatment before and after the transfer. I also take herbs (that taste awful) until stims started, then I'll stop the herbs and continue RJ and bee pollen.
I like the fact that most acupuncturists also consult on supplements, diet, exercise, and general well-being, and I believe that all this combined can give us more chances in .
