I love my acupuncturist, so I am sure that makes me biased, but I am really enjoying the experience. The initial assessment is not necessarily the same as it is with a doctor, and they diagnose you kind of wholistically. They will feel that the infertility is due to some sort of stagnation or excess or deficiency.

The needles pinch slightly when going in for me, but after that you cannot feel anything unless you try to move. After that, it's very relaxing. When I get off the table, I feel as though I have just taken a very long bath.

Best of luck to you!!!! Don't be nervous, just enjoy it!

question to you ladies who are doing acupuncture. I've gone about a dozen times or so... does your acupuncturist place the needles in the same place each time? Mine adds needles here and there, but most seem to be in the same place week after week. I've only seen one guy, so I'm just wondering if that is the way it's done.

That has been my experience too. There is always one right in between my eyes . . . that is for STRESS, so that makes sense. Once in a while I lay on my tummy.

Good luck to you this cycle!

Red face

Hello ladies. I am getting ready to start my first IVF cycle in August. My nurse recommended acupuncture and I don't know much about it. Does it actually help with IVF? How many times do you need to go in order to increase chances of pregnancy? Wondering if anyone has had success with this. Any information would be helpful as I am trying to decide whether or not to try it.

Thanks!

I started acupuncture last week and was extremely nervous too. The acupuncturist I saw was wonderful & extremely kind. She went through my history & explained the differences between modern medicine, acupuncture, what they look for, what the language means, etc. I became extremely nervous right before the actual acupuncture, and she was very patient & talked to me the whole time telling me where she was, etc. which I found very reassuring. Some of the needles did pinch, but I used deep breathing to help calm my nerves & she warned me if a place was an "ouchy spot" - I was calm resting there b/c I realized all I needed to think about for that time was me and creating a healthy baby inside of me - nothing else - and I've found that time is precious to me and calming. I became agitated about half way through & got nervous the first time if I needed to get up & couldn't lie still, etc... but those second of panic were followed by complete and utter calm. It was the most bizarre thing and I had heard this before, but to experience it was another!!

I hope you have a great experience & things go well. I know several people that feel that acupuncture was instrumental in their conceiving & carrying a healthy baby to term. baby dust, baby dust...!!!

OH - and what I've been told is it helped regulated cycles, get energy flowing, blood flowing, etc.. for me, this has been an absolute roller coaster & though we've now been trying for some time, it's only recently that I've been comfortable enough to talk to people... so she's using acupuncture to help me deal with the emotional stress and help me become more balanced. Some people may not believe in alternative therapies, but I've met & spoken with too many people that have had positive outcomes & experiences with alternative therapies so I'm willing to give it my best.

I became a strong believer after I tried acupuncture for the first time last year to treat PMS and regulate cycle. After a month of treatments my AF showed up on time and I didn't have cramps and headaches for the first time in my life. It was amazing, I couldn't believe that I don't need to take pain killers anymore. Next cycle I didn't have my usual mood swings and cravings before the period, and again no cramping!!!
So don't be afraid to try it and GL .

Last year I went to a male acupuncturist for 3 months, that did not work.

I started going with this new Dr a month ago. Things are doing fine except that I went on BC pills for 2 months ahead of her and my AF is a bit irregular. This Dr had a patient who had tried for over 10 years, then got pregnant in two weeks after seeing her. I'm going to stick with her for 3 months. I've endo and my cysts are smaller, confirmed by my recent ultrasound. I'm hopeful!

Good luck to you!
