I went in yesterday for my second acupuncture session. She prescribed me Six Flavor teapills and recommended to do a femoral artery massage. She said that placing my feet in hot water each night could help increase my blood flow to the uterus. She also recommended that I take Mucinex starting day 12. She placed one needle in the web betreen my thumb and forefinger, one on the top of each foot, one on each inner ankle, one on each inner midcalf, and one just inside and below my knee. She does not talk about why she places needles where she does, and does not talk about what my possible diagnoses are. I have read the Infertility Cure and have sort of diagnosed myself. Would it be too forward to ask her to talk through her reasonings? (I think I have kidney yang defiency, but the her she prescribed is for yin deficiency, which I think will overall tonify the kidneys.) I need to just trust her, since she is the one trained in it. I go back in one week.

Does this sound like standard practice? Any other recommendations?

For what it is worth, I would trust her!

It took two months of weekly visits for my acupuncture to finally have a decided impact. He switched my herbs several times. Just finally this last time he told me I was healthy and my circulation was working right.

I just trusted him through the whole process and now even I can see the difference in the color of my toungue and my fingernails!!!

I have had several acupuncture sessions. I think it is absolutely reasonable to ask the acupuncturist to walk you thru what she is doing and why she is doing it. My first acupuncturist also recommended the femaral massage and soaking feet in hot water. I didn't do that a whole lot, though - that was my bad.

I just had my first visit yesterday. So, the reason she asked me to stick out my tongue she was checking out the color. (I had no idea) She stuck me all over. 1 in top of my head, 2 or 3 between my eyebrows, one inside each wrist, 3 or 4 about 3 inches below my belly button and across, some around the knee, ankles, feet, and 3 in each ear. I didn't ask either, just assumed she knows what she is doing. I do know the ones in my wrist hurt. I only have until April the 7th for my ER so I am going to do this 2 times a week in hopes that I can get a as I have researched all over the Internet it seems to increase chances by 40% or more. Well worth it, when considering the $ IVF cost. Hopefully, it will bring down my FSH along with the DHEA supplement my RE has me on.
Keeping and lots of that we all see great results.

Babycrzy, you certainly got punctured a lot more than I did! I understand what you mean about pain. The ones in my hands hurt. I picked my legs up to look at the needle placement, and I got a sharp pain down one leg. I did not do that again!

Did she start you on any herbs, or make any other recommendations? What does the DHEA do?

Jacklyn - has acupuncture helped you out any in your quest to become pregnant?

Keehope - it sounds like you got some positive results. If it can improve my circulation, I would be greatful. My hands, feet, and nose are always cold! What changes did you notice in your nails?

She did recommend herbs but my RE IVF Coordinator said do not take any......they just dont know how the mix with the meds. Also, I read a website today that was some institute for Acupuncture and it even said the same thing. But, to make the lady happy I bought them but I am not taking them. I was afraid that if I didnt by them she might not stick me in the right places. Kinda like returning food from a restaurant and taking the chances of someone spitting in it. DHEA - you need to research it on the Internet - it is a supplement you buy at GNC - the research on it shows that it improves egg quality, it is shown that it lower your FSH after taking over a period of time. I am taking it 3 times a day 25mg. It is for anti-aging, and is used as a growth hormone. There is research all over if you Google DHEA Infertility.
As soon as my RE got my first FSH at 11.8 he said to get on it immediately. No real side effects - I seem to feel my ovaries get quick sharp pains. But no one else as complained of it. I might just becoming mentally focused on my ovaries and dreaming it all up though. All the stress and pressure of making sure I do everything I can to make this work has me a little crazy right now. I am not drinking caffeine either due to info on the freaking Internet. I think I need to stay away from the research so much. Oh, it also says to drink a glass of whole milk everyday to improve fertility....So I am doing that to! We can only afford to do it once so I am giving 110 percent of myself!

Oh, I forget to mention, the IVF cord. said that alot of times when he puts women on DHEA, they get pregnant by themselves. Not it my case of course, my tubes are tied. So, if it could apply to you, you might want to try!

No, it has not helped me get pregnant yet
But my overall health has improved a lot ever since I started with acupuncture.

I always talk to my acupuncturist about why she's placing each needle. I'm fascinated with how it all works and love hearing about what each point helps with. I've had all the points used you were referring to. It was funny today because she asked me what kind of treatment I wanted today. She knows how curious I am about chinese medicine so I had to laugh at that. I think that most acupuncturists would be glad to tell you why they are putting the needles in each place if you ask. I'm an RN so I always want to know the "why" in everything. You should ask what she thinks your chinese diagnosis is so you read in the book what things are recommended for your condition and you can see if you have accurately self diagnosed it. I thought I had excess heat, told my acupunturist and she thought it was deficient heat and told me why. I have done the femoral massage and feet in hot water, although I'm not doing it now since I'm in the 2WW. Those are good to bring blood flow to the uterus and ovaries.
