How did you finance your adoption?

This is a big question for hubby and I. I am lucky enough that my employer will reimburse me up to 5k towards adoption expenses..but what about the rest. It will take forever and a day to save it as we are still paying off our past Ivf cycles.

In some of our adoption packets it gives info about the National Council for Adoption and the loans that they offer. They will finance up to 25k w/loan repayment in 24-84 months.

One also listed a line of credit through Capitol One.

Has anyone used these or other lines of credit?

We are in the same boat. Dh and I are trying to figure out how we will finance what we can't pay out of pocket. Like you, dh company will reimburse us 5k, but we don't get it til the adoption is finalized (6 months after we get the baby). Anyway, just wanted to remind you of the tax credit of like 11K that you will be eligible for the year the adoption is finalized. Dh has checked out local credit unions and they seem to have the lowest interest rates...try there.

Thanks for the info! I have had 2 prior loans through my local credit union..I'll def look into that!

Capital One said the lowest % rate they offer is 9.9% which isnt great but Im not sure what the others are charging..they didnt list in on their sites.

We are fostering to adoption, which in our state is free.

Of course there are many difficulties involved with this, so if you decide to take that route you will want to talk to your local Dept of Child and Fam Services to learn about the process.

We are considering the foster to adopt route. We completed our Mapp class last year. We just have to have the walk thru and get our licensed finished up.
