Nervous wreck about the home study!!!!

Hi All-

We live in Connecticut and are attempting to adopt a child that is a ward of the state. I am so nervous about the process. I am worried that maybe they won't like us or think that our house isn't right...

Does anyone know what would disqualify us as adoptive parents other than the obvious criminal record, drug abuse, etc?!?!?!

Any input would be appreciated!

Don't be to nervous about it. I'm in Texas and just completed our homestudy and got approval as licensed foster parents. We are doing the foster to adopt program. The process was pretty easy but very time consuming. My husband and I were honest and tried to be as real as possible. They ask questions about your childhood, marriage, families, etc. I think it is hard to be disqualified unless they see you have unresolved issues that would affect you parenting a child. When it comes to the home visit our case worker didn't come in with a white glove. She just wanted to see that we had adequate space and all the safety measures were in place. Good luck through the process. Unfortunately it takes more patience than anything.

I don't have anything additional to add to what Kristy said...just wanted to wish you luck. I was also a nervous wreck and just before the social worker showed arrived I thought I was going to throw up! I don't think my dh had ever seen me such a nut case. I cleaned out every closet in the house! Like she was going to go through our closets!! Anyway, good luck, take a deep breath, and find something to do while you are waiting for the social worker to arrive...otherwise you will make yourself crazy (at least that is how I work).

Thank you ladies for your support and reassurance! We actually went to an adoption informational session on Tuesday night and it put my mind at ease. I think that we are in good shape to be licensed...thank goodness!!!!
