Question How did you know?

I posted this in the Infertility Support forum as well. Any suggestions or help is appreciated. Thanks!

My DH and I are figuring out if adoption is the right step for us. After suffering a few miscarriages in the last year, I just want a sure thing.

Right now we are just in the discussion stage of this.

If you chose adoption, how did you know that was the right choice for you? What adoption agencies are really reliable? We want to make sure that we have a healthy baby at the end of whatever path God has for us.

Thanks so much for your help!

We decided adoption was right for us because after our IUIs we didn't want to move on to IVF. We interviewed about 3 agencies after getting information from about 10 agencies. Make sure the social worker you talk to is someone you feel you can talk to, you will have lots of questions and will want to check in at least monthly. Good luck!

We are quickly approaching our "moving on" point. We have always been interested in adoption. We just thought a bio child would be faster & cheaper. So, far that is not holding true for us. We decided before trying & fertility treatment that we would try IUI's possibly with medications depending on cost. We may try one more time as we got lucky and got some donated medications, cutting the cost a lot! (Our insurance does not cover anything.)
But we went into this knowing we would not do IVF before trying adoption. I suppose we might revisit it if we had multiple failed matches or are unable to adopt for some reason.
We have found a agency that we like a lot. They seem honest, and have good references. I highly recommend attending free agency orientations and attending community support groups. We have learned so much over the last couple months and a lot we didn't know we didn't know! It is overwhelming but, it time we've come to learn what we are comfortable with and learned to trust our instincts.
I would also recommend reading "Secrets to your successful domestic adoption: insider advice to create your forever family faster" by Jennifer Joyce Pedley, birth mother & social worker. It has been very helpful for us.

We chose adoption after multiple IUI, IVF failures and the reality that another baby was not going to happen for us. The most important thing with adoption is that you are adopting because you want to adopt, not because you can't get pregnant. I made sure I had fully grieved the loss of not conceiving. We took a year off pretty much and spent time with our older son. During that time, we realized adoption was truly right for us. We adopted our daughter in May 2011 and she's the most beautiful gift I've ever been given. I can't imagine having a baby now. The experience is very stressful and never a "sure thing" until the ink dries on the adoption decree. I couldn't be happier with our decision and know we made the right one.
