Who wants to adopt, is thinking of it, or in the middle of it!

I am gathering information on agencys right now in order to adopt. I have had some great advice from a couple of people on the forum who have adopted in the past. I was wondering if anyone was going through the process right now.

We started talking about it a few months ago. We have one more IUI before we will probably be making the decision between going straight to adoption or trying IVF. I asked about it once before on here and got some really good information on agencies! Good luck and keep us updated if you don't mind!

We are 100% fine with adoption and was on that path until we realized the cost. It's almost criminal really. It's so frustrating because if our RE wasn't constantly giving us pep talks we would have stopped IVF and went for adoption. You know what they say about hind sight being 20/20. We lost SO much money on IVF (all of it was out of pocket). We should have went to adoption after IVF #1...we could have a baby right now...and we still could have still pursued IVF later if we felt we needed to try for our own biological baby. It just stinks because I realize now how uninformed I was when we were making all of our IF decisions. I've learned SO much on this board ...I just wish I would have found it sooner.

With the health problems I had during pregnancy (and still dealing with) we will adopt in a few years. I have the agency picked but dont know at this point if we will do international or local. (I dont think I could deal with the stress of ttc again even if I didnt have the blood pressure/iugr issues)

Thanks ladies! I am literally just reading everything I get my hands on for domestic adoption. The cost is big but it's scary how much information you need to know about each agency. I'm afraid I'm going to forget it when I go to interview the different agencys.

Is there a local adoption group near you? They often have opinions on good agencies, fair prices, etc. If you want hand holding, pick an agency that does that. There is nothing worse than finding out that you don't like your agency when you are too far in to change. We had issues with our agencies, but know that they led us to our boys. Remember too, that there is a tax credit for over $10,000. You will have to pay the money to the agency, but you'll get that back at tax time.
Best of luck and keep us informed!

I don't think there is an adoption group. The closest adoption agency is about one and a half hours away for classes. We live on the border between Iowa and Illinois and I found the same company just across the river but I don't know if they will do the classes for us. We only have two foster to adopt agencies in our town.

You don't have to go local to adopt. As long as you take the required classes somewhere, your agency just has to be licenced in your state. I have also heard of private agencies that work within all state foster systems to help place children with families. A coworker of mine went that route and she adopted a son from the foster care systen in New Jersey (we are in upstate NY). It opened the field up and gave them more options than just their state. If you're not sure if there's an adoption group ask an agency, they'll know. Good luck!

I have always been really torn between whether or not to do IVF or just move on to adoption if this last IUI doesn't work. Reading Carie's story made me think, thanks for sharing Carie!

Oh, plus I forgot to say...we plan to adopt again when Joshie is around age 3-4...if my dh gets his pardon, we may go international because we'd like an older child next time around....babies are fun, but a lot of work! We'd really like a toddler age girl next time.

Blessings, Michelle

Deff. thinking about it

I have a stepson that i have had from the age of 14 mths. He does not know his mother and I am mommy. I can imagine the love i have for him being ANY different then for my own child if i was to have them. I am crying just thinking about the love i have for that little boy, he is the most amazing and lovable little boy. I met him before i met his dad (I was the daycare teacher. heehe) and i loved him and knew he was meant to be mine. I then met his father and loved him after time. So i think i will be perfectly fine with adopting a child now that i know the love is just as great as long as i have a house full of screaming children!!! Nothing else in the world is more important to me
