New update on my adoption journey....

So we thought we would be all done with our homestudy today. Unfortuately DH fingerprinting hasn't come back yet so we are still waiting for that. We can show our portfolio though. Our agency is working with three potential birthmoms. One due the end of july and two due the end of sept. They have a policy of not telling us if we were picked until three weeks before the birthmom is due though. She will let me know when my portfolio is shown though. I'm very excited about this.

Sarah, I haven't heard of an agency with that policy before. In a way it would be nice because you're not in limbo for quite as long, and you could save yourself from some heartache if an emother choses you and then changes her mind before birth. Yet, you may miss out on time to really get to know her before the birth. Under normal circumstances, would you be able to have a match meeting with her prior to the birth? Are most adoptions through your agency open?

That's exciting news about some upcoming possibilities! I know our portfolio went out a couple times in April - but haven't been selected yet. Isn't it an unusal and exciting feeling to know that someone is learning all about you and your family?

Wishing you and everyone else on the adoption journey good news!

Sarah - That's SO exciting that your agency is already showing your portfolio. I'm surprised that you don't get matched until 3 weeks before birth (since that can also be just a few days before birth, depending). But it does seem to save you from some of the risk of getting invested for too long in one situation. Regardless, it's tremendously exciting that things are really going, and I hope the right match comes to your really soon! B

I never thought about that. Most of the adoptions are semi-open but some birthmoms want to interview the adoptive parents so I think they will let us know when it's down to two families then the mom will let the agency know who she picked. I think the agency will make exceptions if the birthmother is very insistant on telling us so we can spend more time together.

I think in that case we get to pick which one we want to go with. Since the first one is due in july and the other two are due in sept they don't show the portfolio at the same time though.
