Cool new here introducing myself

hi. i'm new here and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Michele and both a bio and adoptive parent. DH tried ttc for 2 years, had m/cs and trouble ttc. we decided we wanted to be parents and started pursing adoption. spent several months researching and decided on russia in Jan 2001. We recieved our referral in May and travelled in August/Sept 2001. Our son Dylan was born in Siberia Russia on 9/4/00 and we adopted him on his first birthday. When we returned to the US it took me a few weeks to realize AF was late and lo and behold we had a 'russian souvenier' under construction. After months of sickness and intermitten bedrest, our daughter Caroline was born on May 9 this year.

We have a great little family and our son has been amazing. He's totally caught up developmentally and is a true treasure. Our daughter is wonderful too.

I'd be happy to share info on adoption. IF, and raising both bio and adopted kids. hopefully this board will start to pick up steam!

Welcome

I am Kim and I agree with Kelli. I get that same comment all the time Kelli. I have a 16yr old bio daughter and will hopefully be finding out next week that we are adopting a 7yr old boy and 10 yr old girl. We ttc for 5 years, went through treatments etc... I realized we were meant to adopt and have been so much happier since we made that decision. Glad to have you here and I too hope things pick up on here.

Kelli

these days, p/g after adoption happens somewhere between 5-10% of the time. W/fertility treatments its less common than in the 60s-80s.

It drives me nuts when people say 'that happens ALL the time!' I know about 50 adoptive families and its happenned in only 2 other families I know. Our adoption social worker says we're her only family. And yet everyone knows or knows of somebody its happenned to and therefore it happens all the time! the other thing that gets me is when people say 'see, I knew if you adopted you'd get p/g!'.

I've kind of made my peace with it. yes people say clueless things all the time and I just try and use it as an opportunity to educate people.

Welcome Scuba

hi Scuba,

Welcome and congratulations. I know people say that to make you feel better and I use just tell them. Unless it is a miracle it is not going to happen so you just need to pray for adopted children for us.
