Essential Oils
Has anyone used essential oils to keep you calm and relaxed when feeling stressed? My mom just got me into this stuff called DoTerra, she sales it now. It is pretty amazing. My favorite's are peppermint, melaluca, eucalyptus, and breathe. My husband rubs the peppermint on my back and it makes your skin tinge and smells ssoooo good it almost puts me to sleep. Such a relaxing smell. The other's are good just for if you are feeling stressed out I rub a little on my chest and they calm me down, take a few breathes and relax. You can go online and see if someone sales them locally or you can order them through my mom and they will ship to you. They are 100% natural so there is no conflict with any meds you are taking. I can't live without the peppermint. Plus some of the other's are good for sick kids or if you are sick. There is also one called phytoestrogen, look it, amazing!! They are a little expensive but I say throw them in with your medical bills for the year and write them off on your taxes!
Just a suggestion for people who are looking for something!

You aren't supposed to use Essential Oils during pregnancy, especially the 1st trimester. So I think you'd want to avoid them while TTC. Just a thought...

I was going to post the same thing - I know many of them are also used to stimulate labor contractions, so you'd want to avoid those while TTC as well.

I would definetly do some research. Many essential oils are contraindicated during pregnancy and thus I would be very cautious about using them while TTC. Just because something is 100% natural does not make it safe, particularly in pregnancy.

Here is a very good link to someone who explains why essential oils can be dangerous and which ones and in what concentrations are the best for pregnancy:

Well that is good to know. I definitely won't use anything that will hurt me trying to get pregnant. But none of what I use is on that website and the research I have done says it will be ok as long as I am not using it in my foods or drinking it and using it very scarce.

Essential oils, abortifacients, relaxation, etc
Some essential oils can help with relaxation and are usually considered "safe" in non-Western medical circles, especially when diluted with massage oils, or in misters for room scents, or diluted into lotions or bathwater. I don't think the average fertility doctor would object to essential oils in solutions like the above. I use geranium and jasmine oils in my lotions and bathwater.
What you DO need to worry about, at the very least, are the oils that can be abortifacients or emmenegogues, which can cause (and have been used to cause) uterine contractions or to help bring on meneses. About 20 years ago, I stupidly put pennyroyal on my fingers when creating an anti-flea lotion for my pets, and it actually caused me to start menstruating about a day later. (I have always had an extremely regular cycle - that was the only time it was disrupted!) So, there are definitely oils you want to avoid, at all costs, when trying to conceive, even in lotions. If you aren't well-versed in both aromatherapy and in fertility medicine, I'd just follow your doctor's advice. My RE recommended I stop drinking all "herbal tea," and I had to get clarification on that... because what I consider "herbal tea" is not what most people consider herbal tea. I'm an amateur herbalist. ![]() Quote:
