Has anyone heard that "rose" scented products are supposed to help with TTC....an old wives tale maybe but my inlaws believe it and gave my SIL a basket full of rose scented products when they were TTC. Guess they dont like me enough to give me one, but whatever~! lol. THought I'd pass on that info, some believe it helps so maybe....lol.

I just found this article...

Aroma therapy and TTC.

The beneficial effect of fragrant oils has been known for thousands of years. Aromatherapy uses the healing properties of plants as well as smell to trigger a reaction and emotion within us.

Essential oils are highly concentrated plant substances, distilled from roots, seeds, barks, flowers or leaves, depending on the species. Ideally, oils for aromatherapy are produced from fresh and organic material. They are often expensive because of the tiny amounts of oil present in a plant and the difficulties in extracting it.

Aromatherapy can be beneficial in two ways when trying to get pregnant. Firstly there are oils that can assist in regulating the menstrual cycle and promoting a healthy reproduction system. And secondly, even if there are no physical reasons preventing conception, essential oils can relax you and your partner and - at the right time - even act as an aphrodisiac to help things along!

Using essential oils
Because they're so concentrated, essential oils should never be applied directly to the skin.

Massage One of the best ways of using oils - and certainly an excellent method if you're aiming for the aphrodisiac effect! Dilute the essential oil in a base such as almond, wheatgerm or grapeseed oil. The quantity of essential oil should be in the region of 1-3 per cent of the quantity of base. Or, 20 to 60 drops of essential oil to 100ml of base. You and your partner may choose to massage each other. Or - if you're looking for a beneficial effect on your reproductive system - try a daily massage of the abdomen, hips and buttocks, beginning on the last day of your period.

Oil burner
Essential oil burners are widely available; you add 3-4 drops of oil to a container holding water which is heated by a small candle, and the aroma gently fills the air. Whilst its hard to imagine how smelling something can affect you physically, it is a commonly held belief that the healing properties can enter your body through the capillaries in the nose as it picks up the scent. As for the effect on your mood - just think how uplifting the smell of fresh flowers is!

Baths
The ultimate luxury - a bath in delicious essential oils. And its easy too! 5-10 drops added to the bath just before you get in - then all you have to do is lie there, making sure you spend long enough to get the benefits (at least quarter of an hour!). If you're extremely sensitive to essential oils, you may prefer to dilute them in some base oil or a little milk to make sure they're properly dispersed in the water before you get in.

Which oils should I use if I'm trying to get pregnant?
You can mix different oils to combine their effect and smell. Experiment to see which suits you. You may decide to consult a qualified aromatherapist who will mix up a blend to suit your specific condition and state of mind.

Rose It takes hundreds of petals to distil a reasonable quantity of rose oil, so as a result, it's very expensive. But it has a powerful, restorative fragrance and a balancing effect on the mood. Aromatherapists recommend rose to regulate the reproductive system, with the added benefit of helping when one feels vulnerable or sad. In other words, a great oil for someone having difficulties in conceiving!

Geranium A calming oil which is said to be hormone balancing having oestrogenic properties. It combines particularly well with Rose, but is often used as a cheaper alternative.

Melissa (also known as Balm) Sadly, almost as expensive as Rose oil! Known for its uplifting qualities, but also reportedly useful for menstrual problems, specially if combined with Chamomile or Rose.

Chamomile Just like the tea, the essential oil of chamomile is calming and relaxing. In addition, it is recommended for gynaecological pains and problems, including menstrual cramps. For a relaxing massage, it combines well with Lavender or Rose.

Basil A very reviving oil, which may help tone the reproductive system. Good for someone who is overworked and exhausted. It's a very strong oil though, so use with caution, and avoid using for extended periods of time.

Relaxing oils Stress is a big nono when trying to conceive. So in addition to the oils outlined above, the following may also help by taking away the strain! The ones marked with an asterisk are also aphrodisiacs.

Lavender (an all round winner, also useful for headaches, insomnia, muscle aches, skin problems)

Bergamot (can also be used as an anti-depressant, so useful when you're feeling a bit down)

Jasmine* (expensive, but worth it! Refreshing and soothing; uplifting enough to help with depression. As an aphrodisiac, can reportedly help both men and women)

Neroli (orange blossom - good for nervous exhaustion and aids sleep. Combines well with Bergamot)

Sandalwood* (has a calming effect on the brain and is reputed to be an aphrodisiac, particularly for men)

Ylang ylang* (sedating and good after shock or fear. Is often substituted for Jasmine as it's cheaper and apparently has similar aphrodisiac properties).

The following essential oils should not be used during pregnancy, so avoid them after ovulation if there's a chance that you've conceived: Basil, Camphor, Caraway, Cedar, Chamomile, Cinnamon, Clary Sage, Clove, Eucalyptus, Fennel, Hyssop, Juniper, Marjoram, Myrrh, Nutmeg, Oreganum, Peppermint, Penny Royal, Pine, Rosemary, Sage, Tarragon, Thyme, Wintergreen.

Certain essential oils can help during the estrogenic phase (eg from menstruation to ovulation). They help to normalize irregular periods, b/c they have plant hormones which are similar to estrogens. They are: cypress, geranium, fennel, clary sage, and myrrh.
And to quote this page
:
Quote:
In addition, myrrh is an anti-spasmotic circulatory stimulant to the uterus. In this capacity, the resin or tincture is taken for amenorrhea and dysmenorrhea as a purgative of stagnant blood. It helps normalize irregular periods. Myrrh helps promote efficient contractions and relieves pain during childbirth. As an antimicrobial, dilute tincture can be used in vaginal douches. Its internal use should be avoided by pregnant women.
