Charting BBT and Working Overnights

Okay...although I have been TTC for over a year I have never charted my BBT because I never actually had periods. Yeah, I know...why did I TTC for a year when I wasn't getting a period? Well my gynocologist and insurance company said I HAD to try for a year before I could be seen. Even though it seemed strange cause not having a period is not just a TTC problem but an overall women's health problem...

ANYWAYS, now I am on provera to force me to have a period and ovulate so I would like to chart my BBT but I work 7pm-5am. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job but the schedule...yeah, kinda sucks. So I go to sleep @ 6am and usually wake up @ 3pm. So, I would think I would just check my temperature @ 3pm BUT I work four 10-hour days giving me three days off. Since my DH is a teacher, on my days off I like to sleep @ night when he does so I can see him during the day on his two days off. So that messes everything up doesn't it? Can I chart when I wake up each day...so for 4 days in a row I would chart @ 3pm and for my 3 days off I would chart @ 10am? Cause then it's when I wake up each morning. I feel like I already know that the answer is NO but I want to chart so badly. I want to take a more active role in my fertility rather than just waiting til the doctor tells me what to do and following it blindly. If I were to change my sleeping pattern I would only get to see my husband a few hours a week...but I guess that's what I have to do? Any thoughts?

And if I do adjust my sleeping schedule so I wake up everyday @ 3pm, it's okay to take my temperature then, right? Cause even though it is the middle of the afternoon I just woke up, right?

You do need to chart at the same time every day. You need to have at least 4 hours of sleep before you can take your temp, so if I were you, I'd set my alarm for 10am everyday. Wake up, put the thermometer in and when it beeps, turn it off and go back to sleep. You can check what the reading is when you get up for the day. I have my alarm set for 5:30am everyday and I can barely stay awake to take the temp and fall back asleep most days. Then I just check it either before I leave for work or when I get home from work and put it on my chart. Voila!
