Testicular Cancer and TTC

Hello,

My husband had testicular cancer in high school back in 1993. At that time his doctor discouraged him from freezing his sperm. The doctor said it was highly unlikely that he would suffer any major damage due to this type of cancer.

Fast forward to the present. Because of the cancer, Matt's nerves are damaged and he cannot ejaculate without being put to sleep and having an electric shock down there.

Once we managed to get his sperm collected we found that he only has 3% motility of a fresh sample, and 1% motility of frozen sperm. We also found out he has about 80% dna fragmentation. Because of the odds, we chose not to pursue ICSI. That was two years ago and we are once again in the process of TTC.

Our doctor put Matt on a 3 month supply of supplements of antioxydants and vitamins. In 12 weeks I am to call my doctor to get started on fertility shots to increase my eggs. The doctor says that our best chance of conceiving will be with a fresh sample. SO.... when my eggs are ready for retrieval, they will schedule Matt for his electric shock procedure to get his sperm, and also schedule me for my retrieval. Then the doctor will do his magic with ICSI using five of my eggs. The doctor said that with Matt's sperm quality that we'll be lucky if we get 2 eggs to fertilize well enough to put back inside me. God willing we'll be pregnant by May or June!!!

Wow, what an ordeal for you and your DH to have gone through and to continue to endure. I'm sorry it's been such a ride through this IF journey, but I wanted to welcome you to our board.

Hon I know what you're going through. Please check back in here to let us know if it worked!! My husband had two DIFFERENT cases of testicular cancer in 1997. As in, they were two different forms, not one that spread. His doctor said he had read about such a thing once, in a textbook. So whoopee, now HE'S in the book. Needless to say he doesn't make ANY sperm, AT ALL. Hopefully your procedure works and you are preggo right now.
