I have MTHFR, and I used Lovenox for IVF #2 (old RE) and IVF #3 (current RE). My current RE doesn't think it makes a difference, but he willingly let me use it for my last IVF.
I'm contemplating asking him about using it for my DE cycle since it wasn't included in my meds. I want to do everything I need to in order to get pg.
But if he hasn't told me that I need it, I'm not sure if it really is all that important.

What do you ladies think? Should I inquire about it? I'm sure he'll say it's ok, but I don't know if I should bother. (I still have tons of it at home anyway!)

Wishing - my (previous RE) had me use Lovenox along with low dose aspirin for IVF #1 and FET #1 (my eggs). BFN

I have a new RE, not sure if he will have me use Lovenox with DE or not.

I have the MTHFR mutation and took baby aspirin throughout my pregnancy and heparin injections for this first trimester. I had 2 previous m/c's. I totally believe that this treatment helped me carry my baby to term (and 2 days past term!). No, it doesn't help you get pregnant, but it helps you keep the pregnancy. MTHFR mutations can have issues with blood clots in the placenta and baby aspirin and heparin helps prevent that.

Wishing-I've done some research on this bc I had a different blood clotting test come back slightly elevated.

From what I've read, just like with other treatments/medicines for IVF, some REs use Lovenox or Heparin and some don't.

Those who do, seem to use it in patients with previous m/c's caused by a blood clot.

Those who don't, seem to use baby aspirin and Folgard (you can get the equivilant OTC by taking folic acid, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12).

I would definitely ask your RE, or check with a hematologist, if you want a 2nd opinion.

I have heard that Lovenox and Heparin can have the opposite effect so you need to be careful. My OB and REs were completely against it for me and said all I need is baby aspirin. I decided to add in Folgard bc it can't hurt.

You could also post this on the SIRM website, I did and got responses from the REs right away.

I was so glad to see you post this question since I had the same question myself. I have MTHFR (compound hetero) and my RE had me use Lovenox for 1st IVF along with Folgard and baby aspirin. My 2nd IVF is going to be DE and I'm going overseas for it so will be monitored here only by an OB/GYN. I too have leftover Lovenox from my first cycle and am trying to figure out whether I should use it or not. I'm interested in hearing what others have to say.

I am starting injections of lupron in a few days for donor egg cycle, I will start lovenox injections on the day of the transfer and for 30 days after that, if I am pregnant. I would'nt do this unless my doctor said to. I had a failed cycle and a my clotting was not checked until I requested it. So, it has been a learning process for me. My advice is ask a lot of questions and do not be afraid to be annoying, you must advocate for yourself and your baby to be.
