How Long Did It Take To Find Your Egg Donor

Hi Ladies,

I have been lurking for many many many months but have never posted. I'm 39 and within the last six months I've had three failed IUI's and one failed IVF (February 2009). I am meeting with my RE next Thursday to discuss my options and I'm going to ask about donor eggs. With my one and only IVF, I responded well to the stims and got 12 eggs. We transfered three 8cell embies, which resulted in a chemical pregnancy. My RE said all my blood work looked so good, he as surprised we didnt get pregnant and he felt like it was due to the age of my eggs. I was wondering for those ladies that have gone with anonymous egg donor:

1. How did you make the decision to move on to donor?
2. How long did it take to be matched with a donor?
3. Once you were matched, how long did it take to get to the ER/ET?

Thanks for taking the time to read my post. I wish you all lots of luck in your dream to have a baby!!

Mom2bee,

I can answer your first two questions. We recently chose our donor so we haven't made it to ER/ET.

1.) It took me two years to get on board with egg donation. As you can see from my signature, we opted to adopt internationally instead of going the donor egg route. When I was told I had high FSH of 15.6 (DOR) we knew we wanted a child and were pretty much guaranteed one with adoption. We are doing things a bit backwards as we are now doing fertility treatments.

2.) It seems right now is a great time to find a donor due to the economy. My RE's office told me they have had a flux of first time donors which certainly works in our favor. It only took two weeks for us to find our donor. The coordinator who handles the donors helped us find a wonderful match. I will be receiving my calendar next week so I don't know my dates yet so I can't help with #3.

I'm sure others will respond and you will get an idea of how long ER/ET typically takes.

Best of luck to you!

Hi Mom2bee!

Let's see, I was already setting up DE consults after our first failed IVF bc it didn't go too well and I was concerned the 2nd cycle would be a BFN too, which it was. So, I didn't really any time to warm up to the idea, I guess you could say!

We chose our donor within 5 weeks of our consult and turning in our profile preferences.

After being matched, 9 weeks to ER/ET. (I am doing a split so perhaps it took a little longer than normal to get everyone synched up...for some reason, I think I've heard 6 weeks is about average).

Feel free to ask any questions anytime! That is how I learned everything I know today about DE, by asking away!

Hey! We had to go straight to donor because I am eggless =). We live in GA and I researched different clinics before deciding to see who had the most donors. I actually chose the clinic that has a frozen egg bank. (The success rates are the same.) It is way cheaper and then I did not have to correlate a cycle. There were over 40 donors and they have a website that I could get on and look at all the inforamtion they had on the donor and see their baby picture. I just printed them all out and started narrowing them down. It only took 1 week to chose the donor. Hope this helps good luck! Meghan

1. Once we decided to try and have a child, it took us a few months to decide to try a donor. Because of my age and my genetic disorder, it seemed like the best option.

2. We were told to expect at least a 2-3 month wait. Imagine my surprise when the clinic called with a potential match about 24 hours after they received our paperwork.

3. We were just matched a couple weeks ago. The embryo transfer is scheduled for mid-May. It could have been sooner but I wanted to wait and get passed the busy time at work before I started the drugs.

This will be our first try.

It didn't take me long to decide DE was the best way to go after several discussions with my RE. My thoughts are that it is so expensive to do any IVF, might as well follow the RE advice to get the highest % of success.

I had read alot on the internet, many RE offices have info. online, as well as reading forums such as ours here.

It took me about 3-4 months to be matched with a donor.

The amt. of time to ER/ET depends on the RE schedule, and the recipient and donors schedules. I haven't reached that step yet, but based on what I was told after i was notified of donor it should be about 2 months.

I think Malloned, LGB and I will be doing our IVF's all within a few weeks of each other!

This is an awesome site, such great support, information and advice! Welcome aboard!
