anyone good at genetics here?

I have:
- blue eyes with yellow and orang pattern so that they appear green if you don't look carefully (my father has brown eyes)
- light brown hair (used to be blonde when I was little; my mom has red hair)
- my hair is straight (although my mom has curly hair)
- oval shaped face with big forehead
- fair skin with freckles

My husband:
- blue eyes
- auburn hair (something between red and light brown; used to be red when he was a child)
- wavy hair
- oval shaped face
- fair skin with freckles

Our daughter (4 yrs old):
- blue eyes
- blond hair (which might darken with age as mine did)
- straight hair
- oval shaped face
- fair skin (we don't know about freckes, as we don't expose her to sun)

I want my parents to bond with the baby before I tell them about egg donor. So I need a donor that will pass the traights that I could have passed.

So... is it true that brown eyes are dominant over blue? If that's the case, we couldn't possibly have genetical child with brown eyes, while a brown-eyed donor could give us one... Is that true? Should I cross out brown-eyed donors?

How about straight vs. waivy/curly hair?

How about hair color?

Anything else?

I'm afraid, my mom knows a lot about genetics (and obvously I can't ask her, as this would defeat the purpose)...

It is true that brown is dominant (brown is usually shown as a capital "B" and blue as a lower case "b" green and hazel gets more confusing). It is possible but extremely unlikely to ever get a brown-eyed child with two blue-eyed parents. I were you, I would cross off brown-eyed donors. Even if a brown-eyed person can produce a blue-eyed child (a "Bb" person--person has brown eyes because the B is dominant but they still carry a blue-eyed gene), there is still a 50/50 chance that you will have a brown-eyed child if the other parent has blue eyes (a "bb" person).

Hair color is not completely known, but there are 8 genes that determine hair color. You and your husband could have a child with a wide range of hair colors, depending on which of your 4 genes you would pass on.

If I were you, I would just try to find a donor with whom you have the same basic physical description. That will give you the best chance for a match, but nothing is a given in this. You could have a bio-child that doesn't look like you as well! Good luck.
