HCG levels after miscarriage
I was just wondering how long it takes after a miscarriage for HCG levels to drop back down to 0 so I can get rolling on a FET? My Dr. wants to see me in 10 days which will be 9/14. I just don't want to be cycling again during the holidays. I've done it once before and it's just too much to be dealing with on top of holiday shopping and family obligations mixed in. I'm finding it difficult to switch gears after spending weeks wanting to see this value rise now it can't fall fast enough for me.

Love- Since neither of these ladies are here right now...Stepahnie's beta took approx 2 months (I think) to drop back down to zero, and Igloo's only took a few weeks. Basically, I think it varies.

Unfortunately it's not totally predictable. Could be weeks, could be months. Very frustrating and upsetting, I know.
In general it seems if you had a D&C it's more likely to drop faster than if you had a "natural" m/c.

Again so sorry you even have to be asking this question. I had a natural m/c at about 8 wks along, and it took my hcg about a month to drop back to zero. My RE did advise that I wait at least one AF after that before ttc again. I hope your level drops down quickly. I'm here for you if you have any other questions!

Colleen- I am so sorry you are now having to go through all of this.... Pack was right it took me almost 2 months ( 6 1/2 wks. see sig.) It does totally vary from person to person. Jen403 helped me too, and I know LGB and I believe Linda could also share their experiences with beta returning below 5.
A little surprised they are going to make you wait a week and a 1/2 before checking it. Why not see if you can get b/w sooner? My doc. checked it every week. Anyway, thought this thread may give you some others perspective too... HCG levels after miscarriage? How long does this take? I remember searching and searching for this same info. since mine was taking freakin forever to drop! If I recall more info, I'll pass it along. Hang in there honey, I am here too, if you have any other questions. Big hugs to you!

Lovemy- I am so sorry you even have to ask. I have had 4 m/c and my RE wanted b/w every 3 days to check levels. It does vary per person but mine were usually 2-3.5 weeks. Hope yours drops quickly!! Good luck to you.

I thought I'd share my experience as well. As of Friday, I was finally at 6 and I had my embryoscopy ( a d & c-like procedure, where they only take the pregnancy tissue and leave the lining to shed naturally) about 7 1/2 weeks ago. I have read on the internet 4-8 weeks so I just made it into that category. I was dropping pretty fast at first and then I stalled a little. At one point, I only dropped 5 in a week. I was so disappointed but then I had it checked 5 days later and it had dropped 12 during that time. I have heard that if you stop taking a prenatal vitamin, it can help it drop faster. I don't know why that is but I started taking it every other day and it did seem to help a bit. Sorry that you have to go through this. It's horrible but I am glad you are looking forward to a new cycle again. I think that is the only thing that has helped me was knowing that I can try again. Best of luck to you in the future.

Well I thought I would update my results in case someone else is going through this right now. I was 10 days past my m/c yesterday and my HCG level was down to 108. I will be rechecked 9/24 so hopefully I will be down to 0 by then.

OH Colleen, Honey I feel your frustration and aggravation. Mine did the same thing, seemed to take flippin' forever to get below 5! Hang in there, you are getting closer and closer to that low number!

Oh, I'm so glad I found this thread, it's made me feel better already and less like there is something wrong with me. I had a miscarriage Nov 1 at 12 weeks, and 19 days later my hCG was still at 58. The doc is pushing for a D&C but I'm resisting ... I don't need any more procedures. Sounds like my numbers are in the range you all experienced. I'll do another bloodtest on Monday and hope it goes down...
Does anyone know why some people's hCG goes down slower than others? I assume that how far along you are makes a difference. Do the IVF meds have anything to do with why this takes so long? Aaarrgh. So sad and frustrating. I hope you ladies have success with your next steps. I really feel for you - this is very difficult for us all to go through. Good luck!

Chloe- SO sorry to hear you are going through this too... I hope your numbers dropped alot when you get b/w on Monday. Please do KUP! I am also curious to why some drop fast and others do not (wondering if it has anything to do with how much you bleed or expel???).... It was a frustrating wait for me, but eventually we did get back to zero!
Hoping you will have success on your next go around! ![]()
