Starting Lupron And Scared!

Hey everyone! I have my first Lupron injection this evening, and my DH, who is right there with me for everything, is out of town. I am so excited to have come this far (after 10 months of surgeries, procedures, etc...), but now I'm a little afraid. Does the shot hurt at all? Is it pretty easy to administer? What are the side effects like? We are doing DE, so I will have the Lupron shots for a while then start PIO (which I have already used during a mock cycle) after the ER. I do have a neighbor who is a doctor and she has agreed to come over to give me the shot if I need (or at least to be there for support if not), but I really want to be able to do this on my own. Any ideas? Suggestions? Thanks--you guys are all awsome and I am SO glad that I was finally brave enough to post!

Shannon, first of all Welcome to the forum family. This place is the best; there are always so many people that are so helpful and supportive. You have for sure come to the right place for friends that are going through the same thing. So, about Lupron … the shots are a piece of cake. Seriously, you are not going to feel a thing. I think the scariest part is just knowing that you are going to give yourself a shot. But you’ll see it is the easiest thing ever. And then after a few weeks you will be an injection pro, I promise. For me the only s/e I got was headaches. So really, Lupron was no big deal for me. Of course everyone is different so I hope you get mild s/e as well.

Sorry to hear that your DH is gone right now. Trust me, you will be just fine. There are going to be plenty of times that DH will be able to help you with your meds. But I know, it is scary and you’d love for DH to be there with you for support. Let us know how it goes and best of luck on your cycle. IVF is so exciting, you’ll see. Hugs & good luck, you’ll do great!

Devan,

Thank you so much for your reply. I feel so much better! I will give it a shot tonight (no pun intended!) and see how it goes. At least I have my neighbor as a back-up. I hate to be a whimp about this. I know that soon enough all of this will be no big deal, but the fear of the unknown is a big problem for me.

Good luck to you w/your FET!

We are close to the same cycle...I started Lupron a couple days ago. My donor started last week also. Thankfully, the Lupron shot is a tiny shot but I know when you haven't gone through all this before, it can be intimidating....Good Luck!

Take Care - Kym

Kym and Devon,

Thank you both for your support! I don't know why I was so worked up. It went fine. I did, however, poke myself about 3 times before actually getting the needle all the way in, and afterwards the area was all red and itchy. I don't know if I'm allergic to the Lupron or if I just irritated the skin w/all the poking! The skin is a lot tougher that it looks! Anyway, I am actually looking forward to trying it again this evening to try to perfect my method. I plan to be a pro in no time.

Kym, that is SO exciting that we are on the same cycle! I just cannot wait for everything to move along from here. Are you having any side effects yet? I am also on doxycyline (2wks. worth, will finish on Tuesday) and I was really nauseous this morning, but I am pretty sure that was the doxy. Keep me up on how you're doing. Do you know your donor?

Many thanks to all!

Ugh I know what you mean about the doxy and being naseau. I ended up just taking both of them at night before bed with a little snack and I was good. I just couldn't take the feeling, I actually got sick once and that wasn't fun. But be sure to have food in your stomach or else ...
I'm so glad to har that your lupron went well. See there really is nothing to it, you are right you will be a pro in no time.
