I am doing 1st in late Feb at the same time...

It is our 1st IVF and I am a donor...it is a program the RE office has to help cut cost...it is NOT the main reason I am doing the ED it stems from me wanting to help another couple even if I can't have a bio baby myself. We adopted our DD in 04 and that ** unselfishly gave her child and it made me think about I to could do the same. Of course I wonder about later in life knowing I could have a child out there but it is good just knowing my genes will carry on...I do hope we have a bio baby but if it is not meant to be then I am meant to help someone just like our ** helped us.

So here is the question it seems like from what they explained if they retreived 16 eggs the receiptant would get 8 and we get 8 then that make the best with those. But if the only retreive 8 then I give all to the receipt and cancel the ET for that cycle and then I get a chance at another cycle.

Risky but well worth it in my eyes.

Is anyone else here doing this same thing or have been though the same thing????????????

Thanks!

Question

Hi -

Thank you for sharing your story with us. I admit I'm a bit confused... If I understood correctly, you would go through stims and ER. Then if they retrieve <8 eggs, you will donate all the eggs to the recipient and you will cancel your own ET. If they retrieve >8, you will "split" the eggs up and give half to the recipient and keep half for your own ET. What happens if they retrieve an odd number of eggs? Who gets the additional egg? How does the embryologist choose which eggs to give which couple? Have you been through IVF before? What has your response been like (i.e. do you have any indication if you'd produce <8 or >8?)? How do you work this out legally? Do you have all this writing in what you and the recipient signed? I'm kind of surprised this is legitimate, to be honest. I guess I see how it can cut cost on the stim meds and the checkups and the ER, though it seems like it could cause a lot of confusion in the end... I wish you all the best - I hope this new arrangement works out. Maybe your RE is on to something and is ahead of her time!
