The Nursery

Oh by the way folks, hubby and brothers are almost finished painting the nursery in "Glorious Gold" by Behr. The color is actually WAY brighter than I thought it would be. It sort of reminds me of orange tic-tacs. Anyway, I asked hubby and bros if they think it is too bright, but they don't seem to think so (or maybe they don't want to work on it any more ). I think it will look nice, particularly with the white furniture -- but it is bright!

I'm not too big on getting specifically baby-ish decor. I was thinking of getting prints of Impressionist paintings (some of my favorites) and using them as the central "theme" of the room. I think that pop nicely against the paint. Any thoughts?

Pumpkin - that rocks! I love the idea of working some traditional art into the room - very soothing, and cultured

I was thinking of doing something similar. We found a Dr. Seuss set (neutral colors - red, yellow, blue and green) and I was going to do big things on the wall, but then I thought about just finding some framed sketches from the books. I don't know yet. I might buy some old books and frame them or something. I don't want to go overboard...

Good morning ladies... Hope everyone is fabulous today.. November already.. time is on the fast track now...

So this weekend I had a bit of scare..

Friday Hubby got us 2nd row seats at the Laker game.. had wayyyy to much fun, jumping (ok trying to jump) out of our chairs cheering and yelling.. pretty sure this will be the last game I will be going to until playoffs (atleast the I can have a few beers).. I was exhuasted by the time I got home.. Then Saturday I took my son to a B-day party in the afternoon (90 degrees outside), then straight home to decorate for the halloween party I had at our house... During the entire day I had low cramps, but figured it was just good ol stretching pain.. Then during the party my crotch area (sorry TMI) started to ache horribly.. The only time I can remember this happening was during labor with my son.. I wrote it off to being on the go and continued to be the perfect host.. I was also having tons of braxton hicks contractions, but as we all know those are very common, especially now towards the end of our journeys... as we were leaving to go trick or treating I ran to the restroom and saw that I was spotting... My heart sank and I froze with fear.. Sucked it up, put on a happy face and took my 3 year old and all his cousins and friends out... I called my on-call who is my actual OBGYN and she told me to "get my butt home" and lay down.. Luckily all the aches and pains and spotting stopped and I spent the day on the couch yesterday with no problems... Needless to say, I've learned my lesson and realize it's time to listen to the oldy body! Ive got 10 weeks to go, guess I will be a "on-line" x-mas shopper!

Have a great day all...

Tiffany

I interviewed a pediatrician this morning. It went quite well, and, overall, I like her. Before she went to med school, she had a choice of being a teacher or going to med school. She likes to educate parents. I really like that, because I am (was) a teacher also, and still love learning.

My mom had never heard of interviewing a doctor before, but I'm glad it's a growing trend. The last thing I want to do is doctor-hop trying to find a good doctor for my baby.

I've been doing pretty well. I'm tired today and will be taking a nap in a few minutes (I almost never take naps). Baby moves around quite a bit. right now, I think her head is parked at the top of my uterus -- there is a noticeable knob there. I definitely look more pregnant than overweight now, although I still have somewhat of a waist and an indentation at my belly button. I have stretch marks, weird-looking purple marks.

I was referred to a hematologist due to declining hemoglobin levels. I had blood drawn and am awaiting results. There is a great chance that I have Thalassemia Minor, an inherited blood condition. In the last six months, I have learned that nearly ten of my family members (that I know of) have this or something similar. It's not a great big deal -- at least not this type of Thalassemia -- but it will be good to find out for sure. I may have to have transfusions when the baby is born.

My first baby shower is the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It's being hosted by family members and friends of the family down in South Mississippi. It's the only time we could have it since my husband doesn't want me traveling in December or January. I'm very much looking forward to it.

Now for my nap!

Glad to hear everyone is doing well and recovering from their scary weekends. I have been so freaking busy at work and it's making me mad b/c I want to be relaxing and doing nothing but baby stuff at this point, lol!!

On Monday we had our first class at the hospital (Preparing for labor). It was fun to meet the instructor and other preggo couples, and also we toured the hospital and saw some newborn babies....Awwww so cute! The instructors really stressed the importance of staying hydrated, and said that dehydration is one of the leading causes of preterm labor. They also talked about how it's our responsibility to call the doctor when things don't seem right or if you're having an obvious pain or something wrong. So future mommies, please TAKE CARE of yourselves and your LO!!!!!

Are you guys planning to take a class on breastfeeding? Or do you think you will be able to figure it out on your own?

I am probably going to go to a La Leche meeting. My ped group has a lactation consultant. Plus I know a couple of ladies who breastfed their children. The hospital has someone on site who can help get started as well. Lots of good help in my area!

For the past couple of days I have been able to feel the baby squirm around as well as kick. It's an odd feeling sometimes but very exciting!

I'm not breastfeeing. Please don't think I'm too terrible.

We're doing a 4 hour birthing class next Saturday and then doing our CPR certification too. Our hospital does birthing center tours every Sunday. So we'll be doing that soon too.

I had my 28 week appt yesterday. Everything looks good. I'm on to appts every 2 weeks now!! We're on the home stretch ladies!!!

I got my crib on Saturday too!! I was so excited!! Turns out we were missing a piece and have to wait for it to be shipped to us! Nothing is ever easy!!! We're going tomorrow to get the dresser and then the glider and the changing table will soon follow!!!

The midwife I saw yesterday said those 2 cramps I felt last Saturday after bowling were definitely contractions!! Scary!! She said they can be brought on by activity like that. She said to drink a ton of water and lay down if I feel them again and if it's more than 4 or 6, then I'm supposed to call. Take it easy girls!!!

OMG 28 weeks today! 3rd trimester, here I come!

spunkygrrl: i really like your idea of framing sketches from the books! how cute! i'm thinking of getting a few impressionist prints, plus a calender and chopping that up and framing.

jaxmum: i'm glad to hear you're doing better! take care of yourself and rest up!

Sheri: you're not terrible! do what is best for you and your LO.

springtime09: i know the feeling. my latest form of procrastination is browsing various items for the registry

Mrs. Kinsey: i hope all the bloodwork comes out okay. take care of yourself!

candigirl: i LOVE the nursery! how lovely!

You guys seem to have such nice and spacious rooms for your LOs. Ours will be cozy, but we're lucky to have a separate room for her. We're planning to have the crib and changing table/dresser as the only real furniture. Maybe a small bookshelf. I think the glider will have to go in our room or downstairs. Either way, in front of a tv .

Where did you guys get your gliders from?

I haven't started any of the labor classes, breastfeeding classes, pediatrician interviews or any of that. But I totally need to!

We had our 28 week appointment today. Everything went well. My bloodpressure seemed fine. The doctor didn't seem concerned about seeing spots and numbness I experienced on Friday. She just gave advice on how to handle it if it happens again. I also told her that I've felt the baby move and kick really low (so that I feel pressure in the vaginal area). She said that was normal and not to be nervous about that. Other than that, I'm just dealing with the normal aches and leg cramps typical of pregnancy. No contractions, thank goodness.

She did say I get another ultrasound at 32 weeks -- woohoo! I was hoping to have one a little bit earlier, but it's better than nothing. I'm hoping we can get confirmation on gender then. Everyone looks at me and says it's a boy because of the way I'm carrying (I'm all tummy and it protrudes out -- from the back I don't look pregnant).

My inlaws just came back from a trip to England, and my MIL brought tons of little girly outfits. Not a single gender neutral one. Hehe. I guess if it's a boy, we'll save this stuff for his sister . My mother and grandmother have been knitting all sorts of hat/sweater/booty sets for the baby. There's white, yellow, green -- and my grandmother snuck in a pink .

My first shower seems to be Thanksgiving weekend (before the u/s so more gender neutral items!). That will be lots of family. My work shower is on December 20th. And then there will probably be at least one more that hasn't been scheduled yet.

It's beginning to feel real! She kicks and squirms a ton. I am particularly amused by the squirming because it is funny to watch the way she protrudes -- makes her seem closer.

Hey ladies...So my OB told me starting at 32 weeks I will be getting the NST (stress test/monitoring) every two weeks, as well us frequent U/S..

I was a bit confused by this info, seeing as I have a 3 year old and the only time I had the NST was when I was a day over due...

She explained to me that IVF babies are commonly smaller and tend to arrive earlier than naturally concieved babies... Have any of you heard this or been told the same thing??? Just curious..

Re: the staying hydrated... so important, turns out that was the cause for all my problems on Saturday.. The Doctor threatened to admit me and IV me till I was well hydrated... Promised 100 oz or more a day and she let me free...

Re; Breastfeeding.. I tried desparetly to breast feed my son... I had the hardest time making enought milk for that little boy.. I think a lot of my problem was I had breast implants 16 years ago and the scar tissue and bags can cause many changes in milk ducts and breast tissue.. I was able to do it for 10 weeks and finally gave up... NO GUILT! Dont feel bad if you dont paln to BF... I was the only one out of all my sisters that did it, it's a personal choice and your baby will be perfect either way!

My sister asked if she could throw a shower for me and I reluctantly said yes... I still have lots of stuff from my son and cant imagine where I would put it all... So we came up with the idea of "girl's night in" potluck and diapers... Diapers are always a must...

We are alomst there ladies... I was so excitied the other day when I went to starbucks and was served my cup of decaf in a "holiday" cup... One step closer....

Have a great day!

~~Candi~~ I Love the Nursery...

~~Sheri~~ Everyone has different views of Breast feeding, you are just fine. all of my gilfriends gave it up after a week anyways...lol

Pumpkin~~ Yeah on 28 weeks...Were they able to tell you if you are having a girl for sure or do we have to wait until 32 weeks???

AFM, I had another MFM appt today.. Megyn is weighing 3 lbs 12 oz and measuring 5 days ahead...I now have appts every week until delivery..They really want to monitor her and check activity, fluid level and cord flow...Makes me feel good they are monitoring so close...We are still on board to deliver on December 18th.Its my drs day off but he made an exception We are doing an Ammino on the 17th and if her lungs look good we are delivering on the 18th...Which is awesome, because our insurance at work is changing on the 1st of the year and she would be an expensive delivery...and she is now our biggest 2009 TAX deduction!!! LOL

Cathi! That's so exciting! You're sooo close! I'm so glad to hear she's growing well.

The last ultrasound I had was at 17 weeks and 2 days. The doctor seemed pretty comfortable saying it was a girl; the ultrasound tech said she was 70% certain, but she wouldn't say 95% which is what she says when she's sure. So I've been hesitant about buying girly things. Though I refer to her as "she" all the time. I like it better than "it." If we find out it's a boy, we'll just switch! (don't know what I'll do if it's a boy -- hubby and I don't seem to be able to agree on a boy's name that's not already taken!). I'll definitely keep you folks posted.

Hi everyone!
Glad to hear everyone is doing well. Candi I luv your nursery pics! We just got our girly nursery set and figured out how we want to decorate it but haven't started yet. DH wants to get it done by December so hopefully I'll be posting pics soon. I hit 30 weeks yesterday - only 9 more weeks to go til my c-section when we meet this little girl!!! I feel pretty good; heartburn and sore feet/tired by the end of the day but that is normal. Still teaching my germy 5th graders (I got both the seasonal and H1N1 flu shots) and getting to the gym for 45 min of cardio 3 x's a week. Just wanted to check in and say hi - we're in the homestretch now ladies!!!!
Here are some pics of my big belly! Ignore the background please.....it's a mess with old nursery/baby stuff we're yard saling this weekend!
