Ama

I wish I could stay home and not work, I do work from home however, much of the time.

I think I'll be less of a stressed Mom this time around, probably able to enjoy the child more. I can't believe I'll be 59 when she (or he) graduates. Poor thing, all of her friends will probably think I am the Grandma.

I am just waiting on my gender results that will come in this week, hoping it's a girl. Getting the blood sample is a little tricky, so if anyone plans to do the test let me know so I can give you some tips. It's the pink/blue dna test from consumergenetics.

Otherwise, since we are skipping all of the pre-screening tests so I don't have any unnecessary worries.

I've been trying to hear the heartbeat every day and I think I have found it twice now. Very faint but I am pretty sure that is the HB.

Hey ladies

I am 38 and will be 39 when I deliver. I just got the results from my 2nd nt blood test and I went from 1/99 to 1/50 of DS...peri is pushing so hard for the amnio, but I am not going to do it...we already discussed that we would not terminate anyway so why take the risk with the amnio. I am going for a u//s on Wednesday and my ob basically said that if necessary he will just send me for more u/s.

I never would have thought 38/39 is old...I do not feel old...but I am.

Hi everyone,

I'm 40 and will be 41 when the baby is born. The doctor said that, given my age, my odds for having a baby with a chromosomal abnormality was 1 in 48, so we decided to go right for the amnio so we would know for sure. The results came back normal, which is such a relief.

This is my second child, and I'm so grateful and thankful to be pregnant again. We tried for years for the first one, and it took us a while to feel rested enough to have the energy to try for a second. Of course, number 2 was also difficult to conceive. I have much more anxiety that something is going to go wrong than I did with my first.

Amnio & CVS

Well, so much for my big idea I would get my amnio done earlier than 16 weeks. I thought this because I read a number of articles stating it is done earlier in some places.

Well, the genetic counselor told me that there are 2 membranes that have to be fused before they do the amnio otherwise the risk of m/c is increased. Hence, 16 weeks is generally when most membranes are fused, however, they check it first and if they are not fused they delay it even longer.

SO, I am having CVS done instead of just the amnio. And if I get bad results I'll have to have the amnio done too. I am sad now, but I guess I will find out even earlier if the baby has a chromosomal abnormality.

Hello Ladies,

I am 37 1/2 and I am pg with twins. You can see in my sig I have a son who is 6 and daughter who is 2. I have been on this IF journey for over 13 years. I have a severe complication called hyperemesis. I can't eat or drink anything, and I have non stop nausea. I will have it all 40 weeks like I did in my other two pg. I have a central line and home health nurse who gives me all my iv meds, iv fluids and iv nutrition (TPN) at home. My body is not responding well at all this time because two babies are hard to keep up with. I am only 13 weeks, but having trouble being able to sit or stand without passing out. I can't get enough nutrition to keep blood sugars good and malnutrition at bay.

I am beyond high risk, (AMA, hyperem, twins and hypothyroid) and see the babies every two weeks. The great news is the babies look great. Our NT scan was excellent, although blood work is still pending. I see my peri for the first time on Thursday, and I hope he has some trick to help me. My ob said I will not need an amnio if NT scan and bloodwork now and at 16w looks good. Doing amnio on twins is twice the risk.

I am just going on, so thanks for listening. I am so happy to see a thread for our age group. It is tough to compete (lack of a better word) with 20 somethings. I agree us AMAers are more than ready to be peaceful and grounded parents. We hold a whale of an advantage on the parenting end.

My goodness, Shumach. You have a lot on your plate! It sounds like you have an excellent attitude though.

Renni, I turned 42 in April and haven't updated my signature yet. Does that make me the oldest AMA in the group? LOL. And I'm doing it on my own! As I was approaching 40, I realized it was now or never. And since I have a good job that allows me to provide financially for my child and also allows me to spend quality time with him, I decided to go for it!

Of course, today was a bit rough. My boy uncharacteristically woke up before 5:00 a.m. I think he's teething. And he ate too fast at dinner and had a spectacular barf-o-rama. But all is clean now, and he's asleep. And I'm on-line, sipping Chardonnay. Isn't motherhood grand!

I'm so excited for all of you preggers. I know the amnio decision is hard and the waiting to find out is hard. I can't imagine facing numbers like 1 in 50 for down's. Then again, when I was trying to get pregnant, I would have loved a 49 out of 50 chance of carrying a healthy baby to term.

Kathryn.

I hope that your peri schumachm can give you some relieve. I had a friend who had to be on strict bed rest for 7 months of her pregnancy. Whenever she worried about being a good mom, i always reminded her that she already was. Kudos to you for doing this again knowing how hard it will be for you.

kblythe-kudos for you for doing this alone, i said that i would do it alone as well if i didn't find someone to be with,

renni-never heard of an amino before 16 weeks before, 6 weeks go by pretty quick, i'm sure everything will be fine.

i'm 36 (not sure if i told you that). I'm glad that nobody forced me to do an amino because I wouldn't have felt comfortable with it. I'm all about safety and doing what is best for my child. I know i can color my hair but have held off because it can be dangerous, everything for me is about saftey. I know i can't protect everything, but i can try to protect what i can protect.

Hi to everyone,

I just turned 38 last month, conceived when I was 37. We opted to not have an amnio, but we did have the NT scan, bloodwork and Level II ultrasound around 19 weeks. All results came back fine.

Now we're just waiting for the big day!

Congrats to all of us for being "older" Moms. Although both of my grandmothers had their last children at 40 and 42. I definitely feel more ready for it than I probably would have been when I was younger. Just hope I have the energy to keep up!

Hello everyone.
Well, I'm 41 and pregnant with an adopted embryo. My OB said she didn't even need to do an amnio because the donor parents were 28. I did do the NT scan and BW and it was all normal. We have had several US's because this little man never wants to show himself. He is breech, has been for months and he always curls up in a ball, so it took severl tries to even get good views of everything. I have my appt today so we will see if she has everything she needs now. But it never bothers to me to have more I get to see him more!

It's TWINS!

Hi ladies - well I got the shock of my life this morning! I went for my 2nd u/s, and sure enough, there were two babies with two strong heartbeats!!!

I totally was not expecting that at all, but I am over the moon. "One and done"....LOL. DH knew we didn't want just one, but since it has taken so long to get pregnant, and I am 39 now, I thought this might be my only chance.

I am so thrilled, and just praying all goes well!!!!

The RE said they were measuring a couple days behind, but since it's twins it's probably fine.

Well, no pressure to reveal any ages on here. *wink*

Congrats on twins! Oh what fun!

Schumach-yes, hope you get some relief soon. That is a long time to be laid up.

I think I am going to cancel the CVS and just wait on the amnio like I planned to do in the first place. I don't want to get bad results on the CVS and then have to retest with the amnio anyways! Ugh.

Well, I am glad we have a good group going here. I cannot believe I am actually in a PG group, after being in the over 40 and IUI, injectibles groups for soooooooo long...watching so many people coming and going...pg after pg....woo-hoo!! I am PG!
