The nurse who took my blood today told me not to worry about eating seafood in the 1st trimester that it will be fine and it is really the 2nd and 3rd trimesters when you need to worry about that BUT then I asked the nurse who called me with my beta scores and she said to only eat fish with low mercery content and not to eat it everyday or anything. Since I will be in Cabo next week and probably eating a lot of seafood (or will have to make special arrangements from the group to eat something different) I am wondering if I should eat the fish and hope for bright clear baby eyes (lol) or if I should ask for a menu and order chicken or munch on a granola bar or something...ugh!

Josie - All fish contain mercury, so you don't want to eat too much of any fish during the week. Some fish, like shark, rockfish, are off limits because they tend to have very high levels of mercury. Here's an excerpt from "You and Your Baby: Pregnancy" by Dr. Laura Riley, OB/GYN:

"Fish is a four-star food. It's an excellent source of protein, it is very low in saturdated fat, it's rich in omega-3 fatty acids (which help build and maintain a healthy brain and nervous system), and with a few exceptions, it's low in calories. It can even help keep your heart healthy.

Now the bad news: According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), nearly all fish and shellfish contain traces of mercury. For most adults the amount of mercury consumed when eating fish poses no health danger. For pregnant women, however, mercury in fish can be dangerous because it can harm a baby's developing nervous system. For that reason, the FDA and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advise pregnant women, nursing mothers, women who might become pregnant, and young children to avoid some types of fish and eat other fish and shellfish that are lower in mercury. For more information, or to find out about fish advisories in your state, check the EPA website at Fish Advisories | Water Science | US EPA. Follow these government guidelines:
 • Do not eat shark, swordfish, king mackerel, or tilefish because they contain high levels of mercury. These are large fish that live long lives. These fish pose the greatest risk because they've had more time to accumulate mercury in their bodies.
 • Eat up to 12 ounces (about two meals) a week of fish and shellfish that are lowest in mercury. These include shrimp, canned light tuna, salmon, pollock, and catfish. (White tuna contains more mercury than light tuna.) Other fish that contain low levels of mercury (but not as low as the aforementioned) include anchovies, butterfish, clams, cod, crab (blue, king, and snow), crawfish, Atlantic croaker, flatfish (flounder, plaice, sole), haddock, hake, herring, jacksmelt, spiny lobster, North Atlantic mackerel, Pacific mackerel chib, mullet, oysters, ocean perch, pickerel, sardines, scallops, American shad, squid, tilapia, freshwater trout, and whiting.
 • Check local adviseries to determine the safety of fish caught by family and friends in your local lakes, rivers, and coastal areas. If no advice is available, eat no more than 6 ounces (one meal) of fish from local waters and no other fish during that week. When in doubt, eat something else.
 • If you eat more than the recommended amount of fish in a week, cut back during the next week or two so that you average the recommended amount per week.
 • Never eat raw fish."
If you want ensure you are getting adequate amounts of omega-3 fatty acids, you can always take a supplement. Most babies r us and motherhood maternity stores carry the supplement that is made by Enfamil, or you can go to any health food/vitamin store. Just be sure to check that the source of the O-3 does not contain mercury (which, most that in the supplements do not).

Hope that helps sweetie!

Tabitha - Thanks for the welcome! Wow you've even already done the twins thing - sounds like that will be helpful for advice for at least Mommyinny (and maybe me, if I'm lucky!). I see you are a surrogate, that is awesome! Are you doing this for someone you know (and am I even interpreting your sig correctly, if not sorry!) It sounds like you are definitely pregnant, I never did POAS this time so my wait was torture - hopefully your next few days will be a little easier!

Emmysmom - Hi! Looks like you're well into this pregnancy - good luck and hope you're feeling great!

Josie_skye - I love your Christmas present idea! I wanted to announce all cute but so many people were in on this that it just turned out differently (but still awesome). My u/s is just one day before yours (soooo long to wait!)

Nicky - try to relax (I know, impossible). Betas are weird - it's so different for everyone - I hope yours is fabulous on the 4th. And how awesome you got a BFP before IVF! Congrats!

Dawners - I know what you mean about being scared, we're all so early. I'm glad they know what caused your earlier miscarriages so hopefully the extra folic acid and B vitamins will make things better for you.

lbzg - So glad your first IVF worked, that is awesome.

Mommyinny - TWINS! That's so amazing!! Our betas, both 17 dpr, were 658 and 686. Yours was about 30 higher than mine. I can't believe I have to wait more than 2 more weeks for my u/s!! I would LOVE twins.

Ryles - Just a couple more days till your beta - it will eventually get here, good luck!! LEt us know as soon as you get it.

Genevieve - Hi! Glad you decided to join this thread! Our due dates are only 1 day apart!

JnD - Congrats on your BFP and !

Sorry if I missed anyone! Have a great Halloween! I have so much to do but this was more fun!

Oh, I keep meaning to ask someone. What are the rules on bd during the first trimester? We were told not to until the beta but haven't talked to my doctor since our transfer. Anyone know?

Hi everyone! So much activity here!

Josie - I get the Lara Bars at my grocery store. You can also buy them online LÄRABAR | Flavors

Nicky, sorry to hear your number didn't go up significantly, but there are a lot of women here whose numbers went up very slowly and who are successfully pregnant!

Welcome, Dawners, LBZG, Genevieve, and JnD!

Congratulations, MominNY, on the twins!

Good luck to everyone with upcoming betas and ultrasounds. I've got just six more days til mine! Some weird cramping tonight, so I'm hoping that's a good sign!
Do you know when your first ultrasound is?
Not yet. I go for my second and this beta's tomorrow and wednesday. I guess it will be scheduled after that. My RE said it would be a couple weeks. That is making so hard for us too! My DP is having a hard time not telling her mom. Her mom was with us for halloween and started talking about when we're gonna try and if we think she'll need to rent a hall for the baby shower. For DP to have to lie to her about it... that was hard. We're not sure if we'll wait until 8 weeks, or tell her as long as we see the heart beat... not sure. Holding out until Christmas would be awesome. But, we're not sure if waiting that long would end up hurting her feelings in the long run. When DP was pregnant, her mom decided that she was gonna call the baby her li'l sunshine, and we found this photo album that plays "You are my sunshine" when you open it. We're thinking of putting the first ultrasound picture in their and giving it to her as a gift, such not sure when.

How are you feeling?

Someone else linked this site - I liked it.
The BetaBase

Yes, I'm the exact same way on cramps. And when I sneeze suddenly... Yooowie it's like a knife in my lower abdomen (uterus, I assume) for about 5 seconds and then gradually fades away. Coughing can do it, too.

Well tomorrow my u/s 3ww is down to a 2ww. Let's hope it goes faster than the last 2ww!

I do feel crampy still off and on through out the day. I have looked it up on the internet and my RE office told me that I would that I only needed to get worried if I started bleeding with painful cramps.

Ibzg-I'm so happy you mentioned the cramps and everyone else responded that they are having them too!! I've had them pretty consistantly and every now and then they are sharp and I was getting worried (as worrying has become second nature!!) But I guess if we are all experiencing them then they are pretty common.

I think a lot of us are going in for beta's tomorrow and just wanted to let you all know I'll be praying that those of us who are get good numbers!!!
