Book Review #1

Ok just to save Robin one book to review, I'll tell you one book that I think is really good. Its called Conception, Pregnancy and Birth by Miram Stoppard. It is really informative and has lots of real pictures. My DH laughs because it follows a woman pregnant and shows her naked through differnt stages of her pregnancy..I have to admit, I get a little like "whoa" when Ive seen her boobs too many times, but it is very informative. It actually has a good section on IVF then it follows your pregnancy almost weekly. There is a section on pregnancy nutrition and a section on delivery and post delivery. Here's a link so you can check it out: Robin if this was one of your books now you only have 19 more to review. haha

Amazon.com: Conception, Pregnancy & Birth: Books: Miriam Stoppard

Hey Havana,

Here are some books that I bought and have been helpful (and some have just been enjoyable...I bought some of them for the humor).

Your Prengnancy Week by Week - I like it because each chapter is a week of your pregnancy...so it follows how your Dr will refer to your stages of pregnancy. It also tells you what kind of developmental milestones your little one is going through each week. Plus, it's actually written by a doctor.

You and Your Baby - Written by a respected OB/GYN (who is also a friends with my RE). I am picking this one up later this week to check out. My RE highly recommended it (but maybe that's because all my REs are friends with her ) Sounds good though...and what's appealing to me is that it's written by an OB/GYN.

Belly Laughs - I just bought this book by Jenny McCarthy for some humor. I read it in about two hours and it gave me some chuckles. Not much of a pregnancy guide though.

Girlfriends' Guide to Pregnancy - Again, not much of a week-by-week pregnancy guide but, it's just written the way a friend would talk to you. I have found a few helpful tips/info in there (especially about delivery...things I'm sure your Dr won't mention) but, it's definitely a lighter read....I wouldn't really call it a pregnancy "guide.".

All my REs, my GYN and all my friends that have children told me to stay away from the old "bible" (What to Expect When You're Expecting). I picked it up anyway but put it away after about 20 pages. I'd rather read a guide written by a Dr if I'm going to use it as my "guide" through pregnancy....and it seems like the book wants to scare the bejeezus out of you with information overload.

There are lots of great books out there....it's easy to get overwhelmed at the bookstore. Good luck!

I have what to expect, and I agree Boston. I would only use it as a reference. Ie. if you're experiencing something, look it up in the index and go to those pages. Reading all of it can be way too much.

You & Robin both mention belly laughs but I've never heard of that one. Might need to go to the bookstore I *might* be able to get away w/ reading that one in front of friends at the beach w/out them thinking that i'm pregnant.

it is next week- very soon! And i picked an obgyn based on hospital. There's 3 obgyns (that i know of) that deliver at the hospital 10 minutes from here, so I picked one of those.

I know they'd see it was a preg lady but i was kinda hoping that i could say my pregnant friend read it and loved it and lent it to me for a good laugh... I'll read it a few pages before i buy it- thanks!
