Hello girls,
I know I know I know......bad me....didnt write for long time..... you will know why, but first I will get back to hospital time. Surgery went well, Gregor was born and was sucking on my breasts every 2-3 hours, each time about 45 minutes, so I was thinking everything is fine until 2 days later when I wanted to go home, they did told us that he lost almost 3/4 of lb, but they did say babies do that and not to be concern about it. Well, in hospital I did pissed off pediatrician in few ways, first I didnt want circumcision, had to listen his lesson, but told him about latest studies, about me being from country where nobody has it done, about my father and brother (I did ask them) never had any infection, about me knowing difference between men with & without ....blah blah blah...... Than I did refused vaccination Hep B and did sign papers. I did told them it is something what baby dont need right now, he is to small for government to start to give him shots to get rid of something what they want to regulate, that we will decide later on, when he will be bigger...... Than came women to my room with some machine to do hearing test. My DH was there too. We did ask what it is about? Is there something wrong? She sad no, that they do it to all babies and that they will send the bill. We did say we already did pay all cash and they told us all necessary is included, she did say she is not from hospital. After more and more questions we did find out, that less than 1% of babies are diagnosed with some kind of hearing problem....DH stand up and clap hands on one side of Gregor's head, baby got scared and started to cry, DH did say that Gregor hears well....... She wanted us to sign papers that we refused test. DH did read that papers and told her it is full of BS, that he is absolutely not going to sign papers of this kind......., she did say she is going to call supervisor and let know pediatrician..... She got back one hour later and did say that we dont have to sign it and that DH was right (he did ask for number of paragraph), it is not required by law as is written in that papers.... On Saturday - day I was leaving pediatrician came in while I was there alone and told me, that Gregor has Jaundice disease, I did ask what it is ....... and that was water for his mill...... he was very mad at me for all what we refused and that I dont know anything about this disease and that Gregor will get brain damaged....and that right away we have to go on Monday visit our pediatrician. Later on DH told me what is Jaundice about and I know that, just we dont call that in my language as "jaundice", so on Sunday we let all day long periodically shine sun on Gregor's body through window......and on Monday at pediatrician office - he was OK, doctor didnt understand how come they made us so scared in hospital, doctor was also fine with fact of refused Hep B, he did promised help us to make choices in vaccinations and to respect our wishes, very nice doctor...... (oh, Robin, his first name "Yuri"......his mom was from Korea) Also on weekend I did try breast pump and did find out almost nothing was coming out, so I did start to make formula. How come they didnt suggest it in hospital to pump it to see how much is coming out, if lost of weight was so big in 2 days?? On Monday at pediatrician office it was almost 1 lb down from birth weight. Doctor did say all will be fine, just keep feeding him formula and trying to be pumping breasts, to know how much of food he is getting. After formula - his pooping stoped for a day, and for sure he had on Wednesday belly-poop problem, so I did start to let him sip here and there water between feedings to loosen up his poop, so finally after a day of not resting and not being able to sleep for more than 1/2 a day on Wednesday he took big poop and from that moment all is fine and by scale he is gaining weight, in last 2 days he gained another 6 oz.... My DH's sore throat didnt went away after 3rd set of strong antibiotics, so he went for specialist who didnt see anything in throat but something IS behind left tensile and doctor is thinking it is tumor. DH went for CAT scan. We dont know anything about results yet, but whole this time is very crazy for us, on one side we feel very happy and lucky and on other side we cant get bad thoughts out of our heads, it is lot of stress, I do cry all the time when DH doesnot see me.......I am just so sad.....very sad.......... On labor day I was 213 lb, today I am 193 lb, so I have 24 lb more to go, I hope I will be able to do it. Oh, I went shaved into hospital, just left there little triangle, but even that little triangle they did shaved 1/2 of it off, they did made incision very low, under hair line. Gregor is such a good baby, just sleeps, poops and sleeps again, I do love moments after he eats when we wait for burp, he always acts like drunk man, making funny faces. I can swear I did see few times a smile and looks like he has a dimples while smiling, but nobody from our families has a dimples or blond hair, we wonder is he ours??? hahaha There is no way I am able to read all your posts what are here in last week, so I am sorry for that. But I am surprised no any new baby here??? Robin, what is going on with you???!!!!!!! Hello and good wishes to all of you! XOXOX Mirka ![]() |

Mirka- quite normal for babies to lose weight -- Almost ALL babies lose a little of their birth weight. And if you keep putting him to your breast, he will trigger more milk-- the pump is NOT as effective as he is at getting milk and is not the best indicator of him getting milk-- him having wet diapers is a better indicator. formula can constipate a baby and breast milk is good at helping to loosen him up. I'm sorry for your troubles in the hospital, but glad that you're all home now and hope that everything is fine w/ DH. don't worry about reading our posts-- you will see a maybebaby update if someone has a baby
![]() How to tell whether your baby's getting enough breast milk - BabyCenter Is My Baby Getting Enough? "ALL babies should be assessed by a doctor within one week of birth for normal weight! Babies may lose as much as 10% of their birthweight; however, a loss of more than 5-7% often indicates that help is needed with breastfeeding management. Birth weight should be regained by 2-3 weeks of age. If baby has not regained back to birth weight by 10 days-2 weeks, adjustments may need to be made."

Hi Everyone!
Vanessa-Glad you're still having a girl!! My dh had a dream that our baby was born with pink clothes on and it was a girl and I told him that I saw the baby's pp for the 10th time that day on the ultrasound so unless he has a 3rd leg, he's definently a boy. Wow those contractions are starting to get more frequent! Mine are the same way...I have them and then think something is happening, and then "poof" gone.. sigh...Nat-So sorry to hear about the fibroids! Maybe they will go away after the baby like the vericose vein on the vajay jay and on my forehead. (Lets hope) Cat-WHAT??? You lost your mucous plug??? AHHH!! Girl--you are going to have Tysen like next-haha Im still hoping for Robin. Oh and I want to go to Target too!!! Bri-DH sounds really overwhelmed. You guys will be the best caretakers of little Jayden no doubt about it. All dh's are scared to death of babies and now he has to deal with his preemie issues. He will be fine. Just get him as much education as you can. Ask if the hospital even has parents of preemie groups. I bet it would help. Mirka!-Ok so it sounds like YOUR pediatrician didnt come to see you at the hospital and it was someone on staff? Geez, I was going to tell you to get a new pediatrician. Gregor def. did not need the hep B and I was getting mad at the thought of them preaching to you about it. AND trying to talk you into the circumsicion. There is no medical evidence anymore that it is good or bad. Its just more of a tradition in the US than anything. THEN I almost stood up and cheered for DH's hearing test!! Im sorry you are feeling sad...make sure to tell your OB about it. You've had alot going on with IVF then the baby now DH being sick, etc... Make sure its just not a bout with the "baby blues" so you arent' getting depressed, ok??? Hi to everyone else!! Aiden did so amazing at his briss yesterday!! I was so proud of him and it actually made me feel better about the circumsision. He cried the most when they took off his diaper. (This is commentary from Peach's mom as we were both hiding in the back) She was trying to give me a play-by-play and I told her not to tell me, she didnt want to see it either. Peach and dh looked great and they both are fantasic parents. Peach looks like she's been a mom for ages she's such a pro and her dh looks soo happy. (peach I didnt get to tell you that he has this real calming glow about him now) I felt really fortunate to be a part of such a special family time. Mazultof!!

Mirka- Nice to hear from you. It sounds like the hospital pediatrician made things pretty stressful for you. I am glad you stood up for yourself. I am sorry to hear that your dh may have more health issues. I know it can be overwhelming to have a new baby and I'm sure the health issues can add to the stress. Hang in there and you can count on support from us anytime! Oh, and let dh know when your upset-it can help to have a shoulder to cry on, I'm sure he won't mind. New mom's emotions can be so up and down, it's probably normal, but like Havana said, if it keeps up let your doctor know. I am glad that Gregor is doing well.
Bri- I am glad that you had a talk w/ dh. I agree that they can get overwhelmed more easily, I am sure once Jayden is home he will adapt. The monitor might give you some piece of mind when he's at home. I hope he comes home soon. |

Bri-Sorry you went through so much last night
its going to be very hard and challenging but you have been so strong through all of this. I have no doubt that you will be just fine, your maternal instincts will kick into overdrive! Mirka-that’s ok, you just had a baby so you are excused from being away for a bit! Too bad if your pediatrician was pissed those are your discussion and they shouldn’t make you feel bad for making personal decisions regarding your baby Yuri sounds like a nice doctor so it looks like you will be in good care from here on!I’m so sorry you have so much going on right now, but at least you have Gregor with you. Do you have someone close by to come over and keep you company sometime? Cat- at least you got some rest, which probably helped a bit! Looks like your on your way too!! How will you get in touch with DH if you go into labour?Maggie-nice ticker I smile every time I see your avatar with Josh’s curly hair- too cute!Havana- thanks for the bris update! ![]() Nothing happening here..just waiting, I'm almost wishing i went back to work

Mirka,
I'm glad to hear that Gregor is such a sweet/happy baby. Cat is right ... the weight loss is very common. It sounds great that he has started to put some back on though. Not all doctors are created equal. I am glad that you like your permanent pediatrician though. Keep checking in! Also... I am so nauseous out of the blue today... and I've been to the "bathroom" 3 times this morning. TMI sorry. Last edited by vlinscott : 01-04-2008 at 10:13 AM. |

Mirka - I'm glad to hear Gregor is such a good baby! I'm so sorry that the pediatrician at the hospital was so insensitive and caused so much stress for you. Good for your to sticking to your guns and not letting them bully you into doing things you didn't want. And, like the ladies said, just about every baby loses weight at first...especially if they're breastfed because it takes a while for your milk to really come in. The best way to increase your milk supply is to keep feeding Gregor...the more he takes, the more your body will produce. It's also pretty common for newborns to develop jaundice (especially if they're born in the winter)...the more he eats, the more his system will flush things out. I will keep my fingers crossed that everything is OK with your DH. It's totally normal for a new mom to cry and feel up and down with her emotions....but don't be afraid to talk to your DH and Dr about it...and we're always here for you too!
Robin - good luck at the Dr's appt today!!! Cat - you lost your mucous plug AND contractions?! Wow!! Maybe you'll be next (sorry, Robin )!Havana - thanks for the Peachy/bris update! And I'm glad to hear those contractions keep coming (even if they are off and on)! Vanessa - contractions for you too AND the nausea and bathroom trips??? Next week could be a very busy week for you ladies!! Still no contractions here. But, I do have lots of dark CM today...usually it's just in the morning and then it goes back to normal...today it's been all day. I can't wait for Monday's Dr's appt....
