BLOOD DONATION-- according to the red cross, we're eligible to donate while nursing as long as it's been more than 6 weeks since giving birth. From what i've ready it can possibly affect milk supply because it's taking so much bodily fluid, but there's not much out there. Has anyone actually donated while nursing?

Robin - I still use the Bjorn some too but my "little guy" was only 15 lbs at the last check in. Not much room in the cart with the car seat too. A lot of our intown grocery stores here have those smaller carts so the car seat won't fit in the front section. Maybe try letting him sit up front and see what happens?

Cat - Are you really going to donate blood?? You are super mom! The paci/cio sounds like a good combo. We're still using bumpers here. Otherwise, Aiden will literally rub his head up against the wood! He's a snuggler. Umm... I have fat rolls everywhere! I wish they were just on my back Some of my old skirts are fitting, none of my pants are even close, and all my old tops were smalls and I still can't get these bobbies down!! Geez. Where are my B cups? I haven't nursed in 3 months. Guess I'm storing extra fat cells up there for the winter time! Yummm... dunkin donuts... got to stay away from that place. I am hoked on their egg and cheese sandwiches on bagels.

Bri - Wow. I understand your nervousness with everything you went through with Jayden. Is he a heavy sleeper? When we had Aiden in our room on vacation, we were constantly whispering and tip toeing around. Sounds like Jayden has gone ahead and consolidated his naps. Definitely helps with the scheduling. We're still waiting for that to happen. The longest I can keep him awake is about 2 hours straight and there has to be something going on otherwise he gets grumpy around that 1.5 hour marker.

I have to read more about SIDS today. Doesn't the risk go way down once they can raise their heads and roll? Not sure there is anything I could do anyways to keep him on his back!

Cat- Yes in my room this whole time.... I know I am bad...

Peachy- The risk goes down at 6 months but some lady on this board lost her son at 2 1/2 years to SIDS. Jayden buries his head straight into the mattress and it scares me

Robin- are you nursing?

Please take the boobs Robin!! Neither dh nor I are boob people here I can't even get jackets on b/c nothing will button over the boobs!

Bri - That is very scary. My Mom had 2 friends lose children to SIDS when I was growing up but they were both around 2 months old. Urgh. All this worrying... my gray hairs are everywhere now! DH and I were already talking about maybe getting the Angel monitor that goes under the mattress... I just kept staring at the video monitor all night and he doesn't move even a tiny bit till 7am.

I have to tell ya'll something funny. DH has discovered that Aiden likes to go down for a nap by bouncing him a little. So he holds him in his arms and bounces on the bed in the guest bedroom. He's doing it right now. Sounds like a bad porno movie! I keep teasing him that he's going to break the bed. Wish we had that same enthusiasm in our bedroom!

Do you remember those hotel beds they would show in the movies where you put a quarter in?? Sounds like the old saying if you hear the rocking don't come knocking!

Now I'm driving myself nuts with the whole SIDS thing.... Here are the stats from their website:

"As a result of the national Back To Sleep Campaign, launched in 1994 as a joint effort between First Candle (then the SIDS Alliance), the American Academy of Pediatrics and National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, SIDS rates have declined by more than 50 percent. Despite this success SIDS remains the leading cause of death for infants one month to one year of age, continuing to claim the lives of more than 2,000 babies each year.
While SIDS occurs in all socio-economic, racial and ethnic groups, African American and Native American babies are two to three times more likely to die of SIDS than Caucasian babies.
  • Most SIDS deaths occur when a baby is between 2 and 4 months old; 90% of all SIDS deaths occur before 6 months of age.
  • Most babies that die of SIDS appear to be healthy prior to death.
  • 60% of SIDS victims are male; 40% are female."
I can't force Aiden to stay on his back Most of the sites say once the baby can roll both ways you should just let them be. Anyone ask their Ped. about this yet? All my friends say as soon as their kids started rolling they all slept on their tummies.

i did ask my dr and she did say after they can roll, they're "probably" ok. But no blankets or toys. She didn't mention taking out the bumper, but i was thinking i would for good measure.... Looking at some of the statistics, back to sleep supposedly reduces risks by half, yet 55% of sids cases were tummy sleepers-- that means that 45% were back...

peach- i found this site says they recommend against devices...
"

To reduce a baby's risk of SIDS, the AAP also recommends that:
  • babies be put to sleep on a firm crib mattress that is covered by a sheet, without any soft objects, loose bedding, pillows, stuffed toys, or any other soft objects in the crib
  • mothers not smoke during pregnancy and not expose infants to second hand smoke
  • you avoid letting your baby get overheated when he is sleeping
  • you not use devices that claim to reduce the risk of SIDS or a home monitor
  • you make sure that all caregivers are aware of these recommendations to reduce the risk of SIDS "
i found this link interesting...
Google Answers: Relationship between SIDS and infant sleeping on tummy
