Amy that is really sweet of your DD to comment on the pics. I don't remember ever seeing u/s pictures when I was a little girl. I am not even sure if everyone had u/s back in those days!! LOL Have you seen the 8 week pictues? BabySteps / Shelley's 2nd U/S The babies are not as developed but they are still pretty cool. I think I am becoming an u/s pic addict!

The reality has hit DH and I too, as far as adjustments and extra financial costs. We were totally prepared to have a baby or two but now with expecting three, new issues have come up. At first it was as simple as needing 3 of everything. We were even ok with that, but now we are hoping that we can fit 3 car seats in the back of my sedan. (it is a great car and totally paid for) ughhh We have been checking the internet and some people can do it with narrower car seats, that cost around $250 - $300 each. Eventually we will need to get a mini van or suburban and a bigger house!! LOL

I am not really complaining because I wouldn't change anything if we had to do it again. We really are tickled pink or blue to be having three little miracles! I guess this is the beginning of becoming responsible parents!!

I have no idea where it came from. I guess it just suddenly dawned on me after our conversation about feeling detached that yes...we might actually have a baby! Talk about a freak out. I suddenly didn't know how we would afford them!

So poor DH came home to a hormonal mess and talked me through the fact that babies cost only as much as you let them cost. Which is true, do babies really care about brand names or any of that stuff?? The truth is...I know we are fine, we have been prepared to have our family for ages. All I can think is the hormones got the better of me. I'm back to normal again today thankfully...and I'm not going to think about money again!!

Oh, and while I haven't gained any weight yet and I'm not really showing, my stomach is hard now and not squishy. Which is kinda weird to feel actually. I was also surprised how much higher up I heard the heartbeat than what I was expecting. Its above the pubic bone quite a bit...but I was lead to believe it would be almost under it. Guess Belly Baby has shifted themselves upwards the last few weeks.

Alana my poor dh is at a loss with me too - I have been completely freaking about money (it doesn't help that he is in real estate and there is nothing to count on each month - it is just kind of hit or miss) and he is so confused because he thought this is what we were trying for all these years! I'm a complete mess because yes, it is exactly what we wanted and I know we will make it but we have been saving for YEARS to pay for IVF and now that we are finally pregnant there is nothing left for the actual babies! I am panicked about maybe having to be on bedrest and my work not offering any paid maternity leave or short term disability, yada yada and he is about at his wits end trying to calm me down and reassure me that everything will be ok. Your dh said it well - you don't have to have a ton of stuff, you don't even have to have a decorate nursery or two of everything with twins, it will all work out!

You are so right Shelley - just the beggining of learning to make sacrifices and be a little less selfish. I can totally relate to the car thing too - both of ours are paid for and have worked fine for us but mine is very small and I am just hoping to make it work because I don't think now is the time to be adding any monthly payments!

Are you going to find out the sexes of the triplets? That will be a great day especially since it will help with your planning, I'm sure - may not need a bigger house if they are all the same gender :-)! I can't imagine all the thoughts going through your head with three on the way - I too was very excited to find out that we were having multiples but the reality is sometimes really scary and it drives my dh crazy if I dwell on that stuff - finances, higher risk, etc.! I have to say though that nothing has changed since finding out I am preggo he should know that once a worrier, always a worrier - the things I worry about just change!!!

Fossie you are so right! I was being really silly by looking up all this expensive bedding etc on the internet, until DH asked me how much bedding babies actually used and how long can they use it for. Well, after researching this stuff (honestly, I have sooooo much to learn, lol) I realized they would grow out of all of it really quickly and we would be left having to buy new stuff. Crazy when I look at the prices.

So I'm going to start being much more realistic and buy from the places you mentioned Shelly. I think here we have a store called Once Upon A Child or something like that. I'm actually all for gently used clothes as babies really do grow out of everything so quickly. And as a bit of an environmental supporter I really really hate unnecessary waste. Its seems so sad to think all those outfits could just get tossed out because we are too proud to purchase them. We should all just think of it as doing our bit for the planet! Besides, I plan on raising our child to be very aware of environmental issues and not over-consuming etc. Guess I should start that example early on.

As for finances, DH and I already discussed that if we do have to go more into dept to raise our family then thats fine. I mean, we only live once right? I'd hate to miss out on anything because we were too scared to borrow etc. So I think we will be fine, we just have to get over the fear factor and deal with it as it happens. I mean...from what I've seen kids tend to drive people to be more successful. Its almost like we finally have a reason to work hard!!

I walk a fine line between wanting to enjoy this as a "normal" pregnant person would which would mean being excited and buying stuff and looking at all the fun, cute baby products - and worrying that doing any of that stuff will jinx it!!! I've been looking at all of the cute nursery stuff and hoping that I can recreate it on the cheap - or just have a generous person buying off my registry!!!

I agree with the gently used clothes thing too - my sister has a boy and girl and was shopping crazy with each of them and my dad and his new wife have two little girls so there are luckily a lot of great hand-me-downs, including strollers, cribs and car seats too - in my future!

Hey girls sorry that I have MIA for quite some many weeks. I have been very sick with hyperemesis and have been in and out of the hospital. My doc finally put me on a anti-nausea med. It has reduced the vomiting from 10 times a day to 3-4. A big improvement. Everything else is great. I have my second OB appt next week and have had a ton of u/s at the hospital. I love seeing that bean!
to the new girls that have joined the group. I am glad to see that everyone is doing well.

I agree with you girls about not spending a lot on baby items. The companies really get you by selling the bedding in 6 piece sets only. All you need is the sheets. They recommend a breathable bumper anyways. Neither of my boys used the comforter. You can buy a solid valance and dust ruffle. Half of the crap they sell is cute but it is isn't needed. We have 2 boys so if this one is a boy we will not buy anything. The room will stay the same as well. If we have a girl we will buy clothes from Once upon a Child. Some of the clothes there still have the tags on them. They also sell swings, cribs, ect...
FYI: kids are expensive butn they don't need to cost a fortune. If you plan on having a shower only put on the necessary items like the monitor, mattress, pack-n-play, stroller, car seats, high chair, ect. People will buy clothes and bibs no matter if you put them on the registry or not. I had a friend that put a lot of small non needed items on her list and she had to return a lot of things to get her stroller ect.

Shannon, sorry to hear you haven't been feeling well. I guess the flip side is you get to have all those u/s! Still, I feel lousy enough with my one sick episode of the day and just general nausea. It must be very hard to be vomiting all day like you have been.

Thanks for the tips on what babies need in the nursery too. I was going to get the breathable bumper anyway, and I had been thinking the other stuff is probably just for show. Silly when you think about it.

I'm not used to all this shower stuff either. We've only been in Canada for a couple of years, I'm originally from NZ and no-one there does baby showers. So I don't think I will be registering or anything as no-one back home would have a clue what on earth that meant! lol. We just tend to buy stuff for other people either when the baby is born or for birthdays etc. So DH and I will definately be forking out for most of it ourselves...which will mean Once upon a Child will probably end up being our regular weekly shopping stop!

As for the doppler, its turning out to be a hit and miss experience. After freaking myself out while sitting in the bath soaking in Baking Soda (doctors orders to help control the yeast infections I keep getting) I became convinced Belly Baby had disappeared on me as my boobs didn't hurt at all. So after drinking a gallon of water and playing around with the doppler for a half hour in panic I finally wondered if maybe they were located higher. And yep...there they were, higher up than the week before. Strange but true. The moral of the story? Ignore symptoms as they don't mean anything...and try to avoid the temptation to use the doppler daily. It just leads to moments of sheer panic!

DH and I don't have too much planned for this weekend. We are getting together with Friends tomorrow night for dinner....that is about it which is good because I have not been feeling well the past few days. I thought I had a sinus infection so I went to the Dr. this morning. The office has a new Physician assistance and he ended up giving me an antibotic but never really said that I have an infection. I have been feeling better today so now I am not sure if I should even start taking the antibotic. I am going to wait until tomorrow and if I feel better than today then I think I am going to old off. What do you ladies think??

I tried to use my fetal doppler for the second time and I was not able to find the heartbeat. I not going to freak out yet I was just really hoping since I am 10 weeks that I would be able to hear. Does anyone have any suggestions??????

I think I am going to go shopping for maternity pants tomorrow. My slacks for work are really getting tight and uncomfortable. Speaking of maternity clothes....last week I ordered a maternity bathing suit online. I had been searching online for one and ended up finding one that I really liked. I was going to hold off ordering but DH insisted that I buy it incase they run out..because that would be my luck I would wait too close to summer and then they wouldn't have my size. So it came today and I tried it on. I think it is going to be perfect. The bottom is a little big but I figured that will give me room to grow. It was a little big in the boob area which will give me room to grow (I have already gone up one bra size DH is liking that!) and I stuck a pillow under the top to make sure that it will fit me when I have a belly! I am so excited I can't wait until I have a belly!!!!!!!!

I have attached a pic of the bathing suit!!!!

Shannon, welcome back! Sorry you have not been feeling well but it is great to hear that the little one is doing great and they are keeping a close eye with all the u/s.

Alana, that is pretty cool that you are from NZ! I bet you have a beautiful accent. Will your child have NZ citizenship? I am Canadian and have only lived in the US for almost 2 years. I grew up in Cottage Country (miss the lakes and trees) and then I lived in Barrie for years before moving out west to Calgary. My children will have dual citizenship!! I joke that I will never tell them incase they decide to move away from me!!!

This morning DH surprised me and said that he was going to take us to Babies R Us to check it out. We toured the whole store and got some good ideas on what we are in for!! LOL Wow those cribs are BIG!! I wondering how to arrange 3 in one room plus a change table and dresser! Whew. I might look into mini cribs but I am not sure how long they can use them. I am going to use breathable bumper pads so I won't be buying the expensive sets, just some nice sheets, blanket and probably a comforter (or a fancy blanket)

I bought more maternity pants, 4 pair of capris, black pants and thin denim jeans. I shopped at Motherhood and Ross, so I spent very little money. The most expensive item were $20 denim capris from Motherhood. Everything is stylish. If you have gone shopping for maternity clothes you will know stylish is hard to find at affordable prices. No moomoos for me! Although in the last week I have begun to show so I have no idea what I will be able to wear by the end of my pregnancy. My DH said he will just cut a whole in a bed sheet. LOL I guess that would work if and when I go on bedrest and then he can just roll me out to the car and take me to the hospital.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!!

Shannon-glad to hear you are doing better...did you get copies of all the u/s pics? I put all mine in order on my fridge and look at them everyday and am amazed by how much they grow in such a short amount of time!

Shellie-I had to laugh at the sheet comment! How funny would that be? I went shoppoing yesterday but couldnt find much that I was comfortable in...I had a little bit extra around the middle to begin with so it's hard to find maternity clothes that fit all over! I think I will have to look online and see, my favorite store has a maternity section online so I will have to order a pair of pants just to see how they fit.

And has anyone bought a pregnancy pillow yet? I am having the hardest time being comfy while sleeping, and after three or four days of tossing and turning and waking up with a sore back I am really thinking I need to try one.
I can also relate to the money thing...we are so used to our lifestyle and having extra money to do this and that and I know when the baby comes DH will be like a penny pincher, more than usual, and babies cost so much, but it will be well worth it. DH is convinced thought that he needs to get a new truck because his only has a fold down seat in the back and he wants a full seat to be able to put a car seat back there. I tried to explain that we could just put the seat in the front, and he was totally against that. I honestly think he just wants a new truck and this is a handy excuse...I might give in and let him do it closer to my due date. Well the weekend is almost over so I am off to get the things done that I had planned on getting done yesterday. Oh cute story, we took my neice shopping yesterday and she went up to a rack of baby clothes and said, "Can we get my baby cousin something?" We said we couldn't because we didn't know if it was a boy or a girl and she said she wanted it to be a girl! How cute is she?!

Thats a cute bathing suit Katrina. I will have to check out some of these online stores to buy some comfy stuff. I'm no where near showing yet, just a little pooch that makes me look fat!! But I wouldn't mind some stuff to help me feel more comfortable.

As for the doppler, it takes me awhile but I've been able to hear the heartbeat each time by sticking with a system that seems to work. (I have no idea how I figured it out...it was a total fluke!). Anyway, drink lots of water and wait until you feel like you might burst, then lie down and put the probe about 2-3 inches above the pelvic bone in the middle. (if you have a little pooch already then put it just below the bottom of it) Press down quite hard and try to find your own heartbeat. Its weird but you do have one down there! Once you find yours the babies is not much more than a millimetre or two away from it. Just move the probe very very slowly around that area until you hear what sounds like horses clopping. My doppler registers the bpm on a screen so I know I'm close when it jumps around from the 70's to the 100's as it registers both my heartbeat and the babies at the same time. The two heartbeats are really really close to each other. (My doppler info mentioned this on the hand-out that came with it and I didn't believe it until I heard it for myself). It takes patience, but its so worth it!

Shelly, I do have a kiwi accent, but its a bit mixed up with Australian and English now as my DH is british and I lived in Australia for years. We are now in Toronto so who knows what its now sounds like! lol. We are actually hoping to move to the US in the near future too. DH works in the film industry so obviously LA would be great for his career. The weathers better too! I was also going to say you sound really organized over there. I haven't even bought a new bra yet, which I kinda need. I'm just at such an awkward stage with not really showing but feeling a bit bloated. In fact, anyone else find in the mornings that the pooch is smaller? Its weird, I'm tiny in the mornings but so much bigger at night.

When is everyone having their next u/s? Christine, didn't you just have one or is it still to come? We will have to start a list or something of what everyone is up to.

My next u/s is on March 11th, only a little over a week away, wahooo!

So I tried my doppler again and I drank a whole lotta water and held it for awhile, like you said Alana. Well once we got a reading of 158 and it just had the numbers, we couldn't hear the beat so I dont know if that was the baby or just something wacky with the machine, then we kept trying and found one that was 124 and then went off...I think that may have really been the baby since my heartrate was in the 80's to 90's....the last u/s showed the baby being at 164 so I dont know if any of these were it or not, but we will try maybe later in the week and see what we can see. And Alana I almost had DH go get the camera too, and then he suggested marking it with a marker...lol, the things we do! And is anyone else on progesterone suppositories? I am getting some globby white things in the toilet after I pee (sorry if TMI) and I am thinking it is from the progesterone but not really sure...I went from spotting to globby thing...what is next? Anyway hope everyone had a nice weekend, wish it was longer though!

Sarah,
I am also on progesterone suppositories. The other day when I has to give a urine sample, I notice white floaty things in my urine and was assuming it was also from the progestone suppositories. How long do you have to stay on them?
