thanks Sarah - you big u/s is coming up! it will be here faster than you think!

I am thinking definatly a girl - with the low beta in the beginning, and the differnce in food consumption for this pregnancy! and the fact that she is not cooperative - just like me!
although we thought Andrew might be a girl for a while for not being coopertive, but deep down, i knew he was a boy and this time, deep down, i know she is a girl, as much as i want her to be a boy.

so if you catch me say he and she is the same post - chalk it up to wishful thinking and reality kicking in.

Mothers intuition right? So low betas mean girls? Interesting...I have read about the hb determining boy or girl, but that's an old wives tale...still the hb when I use the doppler is still pretty high so I wonder if it's a girl. Speaking of dopplers I am super excited because the little hb is sounding wonderful...it has that in out sound, like the heart valves closing and opening...first time I heard it I was a little worried but listened to the CD that came with the doppler and heard that is pretty typical at 16 weeks, and I am almost there! But the little bugger is still hiding most of the time...for a while there I was able to find it right away and now it takes me a few minutes. Oh and can they move to different places in the uterus at this point...I used to find the hb up high but today it was a lot lower so I was just curious if you girls find it in different spots...maybe just him moving!

no so sure about the hb thing, with the boys, the hb's were both in the 155-180 range, and this one is consistant in the 140's.

what i can definatly say is that - i am thrilled either way to have made it to wk 18 w/o my water breaking!

now lets get to wk 21 - w/o delivering.

one little goal at a time for me.

Hi ladies!

Charms, thanks for sharing your experience with your babies with us. I had read your signature in the past and was sad to hear, glad all is going so well in this pregnancy.

I had a disappointing first appt with my OB on Friday and have been trying to make sense of my feelings since then. She made me feel like a whiner in addition to feeling unheard and condescended. I was so sad because really do like the people I've met in this practice and read great comments about this doc online and from NP at my first appt. My IF docs were much worse but I wonder are ALL MDs like this? Especially with a female doc I didn't expect that. Then I hear you ladies say good things about your relationships with your OBs and I wonder if I should request a switch. I just want to feel comfortable and have a good relationship. Also, after Christine/Charms' experience...what if something really was wrong....would my doc even take it seriously enough to catch it or just say it could be gas? You know, as I'm writing this, I think I just answered my own question--I will try to switch. It's just that they try to intimidate you and then when you speak up I'm afraid to be perceived as a neurotic.

Shelley: looking good!!

Justine-I honestly am not all to fond of my doctor but looooove the people surrounding him, my nurse is fantastic and everyone always makes me feel like what I have to say is important. My docs personality could use a boost but he does have a good rep and he knows what he is doing so I trust him. But if you are feeling like you are switch. My friend went 6 months with a horrible doctor and then finally switched and she loved her new doc and said she wished she had done it long before she did.

Christine-I am the same way, celebrating the small things, like getting to 15 weeks, and not going crazy waiting for my next appointment and then it will be getting to the gender scan. And my heart is just so happy for you to make it past a major milestone like this! You truly deserve this miracle and I cannot wait until your 40 weeks point!

Elisa-that song makes me cry every time I hear it! Another good one is by Jason Aldine-We laughed until we cried...very fitting for an IF person. check it out YouTube - Jason Aldean-Laughed Until We Cried

Justine - are you seeing a OB, a high risk OB, or a Perinatologist?

I started with a high risk OB who was great for the two appt i saw him, he even gave me his cell phone number.....but he sent me the a Perinatologist and they never gave me back to the OB. So with the pregnancy, rather than starting with my old OB, I went straight to the Perinatologist where I could be given the time and attention i need. They take everything I say very seriously.

If you can find another OB and make sure they can handle High Risk Patients, especially with twins, i would think for peace of mind, going to a new one would be better.

Remember the most important thing is that you and the babies get the care you deserve.

Hopefully you find a new OB that you like or at least a Perinatologist (this is one who specializes in Maternal-Fetal Medicine).

try putting the protein drink in the freezer for 15 mins before you drink it, it might taste better being a frozeny type drink, otherwise you can try the EAS or Ensure drinks - they are high in protein.

Christine, Congratulations on a successful 'big' u/s!!! That is wonderful news. I will find out this week when my biggie u/s is. I am getting a bit nervous over it. I am so happy your little one is doing great!! I really think a mother has good intuition as to what she is carrying. I had a feeling since I saw the picture of my 3 embryos that they would be 2 boys and a girl.

Justine, sorry to hear how you feel about your doctor. My perinatologist has a bit of a different personality but DH and I got him to smile during our last visit. He deals with some very high risk pregnancies. He is serious, all business and he really knows his stuff. At the end of the u/s he will give us time to ask questions. His nurse is also great and I can email her if I have questions.

If you feel like you are not able to ask questions or be comfortable I would find another doctor. It is normal to have a lot of questions and concerns especially when you are expecting multiples.

Sarah, In order for me to get enough protein I supplement my diet with boost and I make protein drinks from protein powder. I happen to like chocolate Boost so for me it is a bit of a treat. Crazy, I know. I tried banana flavored and it was hard to get down. Try to experiment with different types of drink and flavors to find out what you like.

My nutritionist suggested 2 types of protein powder, Unjury, and Any Whey. My favorite is unflavored Unjury so I can add my own flavoring to it. The most absorbable protein is whey isolate. I figure if I have to drink the stuff I might as well drink the type that absorbs the best.

There are many different types of protein powder out there but I wanted to go with one that is 100% protein with no additives or body building stuff. I mix the protein powder with; chocolate milk, V8 fussion, OJ. You can also make milkshakes or add it to pudding...pretty much anything.

Any protein drink tastes better cold !!! I bought a new blender this weekend that does a good job crushing ice!!! I bet it would make a good margarita too, dang!!

You can also try protein bars but I am not that crazy about them.

I buy my protein powder online:
Unjury Welcome to the UNJURY Homepage
Any Whey Amazon.com: Optimum Nutrition 100% Any Whey Instantized Whey Protein, 2.7-Pound Tub: Health & Personal Care

Make sure you drink LOTS of water!!!

Thanks girls for the great ideas...I am just so worried that I am not getting enough of what I need. And I am going to talk with my doctor about calcium too, milk is just too much for me, actually most dairy products for that matter!

larklynn-good luck on getting to work, lol! I know how you feel, I can barely drive to work and now coming home is hard too!

Tomorrow is my appointment, can't wait!!! Then the countdown will really begin, I'm kind of hoping they let me do the 3D u/s before my 20 week u/s so we can get a sneak peek at what kind of baby we are having! I know we have been talking about having a feeling, but I am really not sure, part of me thinks girl and then the other part thinks boy. Most people I know are saying boy and just one or two are saying girl, so I guess we shall see! Thank goodness Monday is almost over, it has been a looooong day!
